POLL: Why did I buy this Blueberry-Toned Peace Dollar?

Why did I buy this blueberry-toned Peace Dollar?
I bought this coin at the Countryside, Illinois show last week. The real reason that I bought it is one of the selections in the poll. Let's see if the forum can guess why I bought it!

Well, the forum was indeed correct: I bought this as an example of a well-executed AT coin. Actually, my immediate reaction was AT, since those types of colors are just not seen on Peace Dollars. I took a closer look and, aside from the crazy color scheme, I thought that it was fairly well done. I bought it for $15. The underlying coin is very nice, but would grade MS-64 at best. It has lovely, satiny cartwheel luster, but there are a couple of hits that the toning hides. It's a shame that someone destroyed an otherwise decent coin with the intent to deceive. The coin was baked with some sort of chemical added to the surface prior to baking. It was better than a lot of the AT stuff that I have seen at shows. The same guy had other colors as well. I consider this coin to be in the same category as colorized state quarters.
BTW, I did NOT buy this coin from MadMarty. I just like harrassing him about the whole potato thing. Sorry Marty!
Thanks for playing the game....

i think not !

I don't see any luster although you say there is. I could show you a blatantly AT'd Peace Dollar in a slab, but someone has it up for sale so I better not.
stman, yes, it is obviously AT, but the thing that caught my attention is the way the toning is in relation to the luster. I just can't explain it. Agreed, the color scheme is insane and the pattern is not logical. The luster is heavy, however.

<< <i> but the thing that caught my attention is the way the toning is in relation to the luster >>
If you're meaning it looked pretty good like the luster was truly coming from way down under, I think I do indeed know what you mean. Also, if you are trying to say the luster is what confirmed to you it was AT, I think I know what you mean as well. If that makes any sense.

Hey Stman -- if it's so blantant, why did you buy it?

Hey, you just have to get personal huh? OK, YOU wanted to buy it and I stopped you and wouldn't sell it to you.

That's my point. It isn't that obvious. You and I both liked it. Not until you get the coin in hand and examine it closely can you even start to tell. Its a great AT job. It would have to be in order to get it past the graders.
Nothing personal, I just didn't think it was "blatant" that's all.

OK how bout this?..... The more experienced we've become with these.... the more blatant it becomes. For me at least.
