die gouge? on an american eagle?

    Does not look like a gouge. See photo #2 below for a Die Gouge example.

    I agree with wolf. It actually looks like a small bag mark which is odd seeing as how ASE's don't come in bags but in tubes. I guess it coulda been nailed by another eagle somewhere along the line. I know if taken out of the tube improperly they all come crashing out together.
  • It's hard to say from the pixelated image but I'll agree, it looks like a contact mark from the reeding of another coin.

    A die gouge would give you a RAISED lump on the coin. This looks it goes INTO the coin which would usualy indicate damage to the coin.

    it's a reeded contact mark - somebody mishandled the coin along the way (dropped another eagle on it or something like that)
