Cover of Coin World, did you see the picture of the doubled die 2004-D dime?

It is really a cool doubling. The "second ear" is rotated 45 degrees!
I wonder what it is worth?

<< <i>Last I heard (or read), there was still some debate over whether this was a DDO or not. Did that ever get resolved?
No it's not resolved and who knows, it may end up like the 1997 Doubled Ear Lincoln and never get resolved.
1. My opinion, after careful digital overlay review, is that this dime cannot be a doubled die as reported. The shape of the die gouge through the ear does not in any way match the shape or size of the ear on Roosevelt. I tried for half an hour trying to get the piece to fit, and it simply doesn't. It has a wide, even curve, where the actual ear has a sharp upper curve and a nearly straight back. The shapes do not fit together, thus cannot be the same design element doubled on the die - other words - not a doubled die.
2. The 1997 cent with the doubled ear is undeniably and without question a doubled die. Not only is there doubling beneath the ear lobe, but also inside the upper ear and in the hair in front of the ear. Those who proclaim this to not be a doubled die did not do enough homework, and simply write it off as a die break because there were not "supposed" to be any doubled dies with the single squeeze hubbing technique.
