I have a nice incredibly well struck Morgan 21 in Anacs, designated as VAM-1. What is it? My wife has cam, so i will post pic when she gets back.

uhmmm ok, so whats the VAM-1 stand for....I mean, why put it on the holder if there is no oustanding feature?

Dennis88 · June 12, 2004 10:26PM

They do it to make sure to other people that it isn't another variety, and that it is attributed already.

On an 1921 P Morgan, a VAM 1 is the following features...

Obverse - Slight doubling on left side of 1's.
Reverse - Extra berry on inside right wreath (total 17 instead of 16) Slight doubling in the words "United Stated".

Hope this helps.

VAM-1 is usually reserved for "normal dies" with no doubling, etc. However, 1921, 1921-D, 1921-S was/is a gold mine for new discoveries in all the mints, so it's not surprising that nothing is "normal" with 1921.

Sweet, thanks for the answers

VAM-1 is the first coin variety and is thus the combination of the first used obverse and reverse (for a particular year and at a particular mint) with no oddities due to over-use of strikes or planchet errors, etc. Each year and at each mint there will be a VAM-1.
