Long time ago. They were one of the few magazine advertisers at that time that had good assortment of PCGS/NGC morgans amongst the raw choice and gem bu dipped and/or cleaned rip off artist crap. One or two mail orders no problems transactions. This was years ago so can't comment on presentimage
  • I had a very bad experience with them. I will never buy from them again. Poor customer service was my experience.

Harry Miller has been operating a coin store here in our home town for at least 30 years. He is a square shooter and stands behind his merchandise. I went to his house years ago when we both were much younger and I would buy coins from him. He started out as a small vest pocket dealer. Today he operates a successful coin shop on Main Street and he does a brisk mail order business as well.

  • I have purchased several coins from them while at the Long Beach show over the past year or so. They have some nice coins, and you can get a decent coin at a fair price if you are careful.. I certainly don't like buying coins from a magazine ad though.

He is honest and fair, but I recommend viewing the coins before you purchase. I have purchased a few coins from him via mail order in the past, but then I started returning many of them due to differences in grading opinions. At shows his staff is also very friendly.

I bought a 1909-O and 1895-O Barber half from them about three months ago. The 1909-O ( $250.00 cost) was noticeably bent and is mostly worthless unless I can unbend it. It looks nice so if I can unbend it I will be happy. To be fair I did not notify Millers mint of the problem nor did I ask for a refund so I can only blame myself.

Still, Bent coins really piss me off and I don't believe a dealer could not notice most of the time as the coin came in a plastic holder marked by them. Also I have requested scans numerous times and have never recieved a reply. Finally, they sell some really, really, really harshly cleaned coins and sometimes don't say a peep about it in their descriptions. You know it is cleaned when the hairlines dig into the facial features of a coin. I would buy from them for sure if the coin looked really nice and had a scan. I don't hold them in the highest regards for the material they sell or their customer service.

I just sent back a 1934 MS66 Washington that had a serious thumbprint in the obv field. I'd called and discussed the coin, gotten a description, etc. before I ordered it, and they never mentioned this.

They have a return policy, so I anticipate they'll refund my money.

I collect better grade circulated Barber Coins and own David Lawrence's "Complete Guides" to Barber Dimes, Quarters, and Halves. When I asked David Lawrence Rare Coins three years ago who may be an expert on my favorite coins (since I don't have the money for the PCGS/NGC slabbed Barbers DLRC sells), they recommmended Miller's Mint.

My first experience with Miller's Mint was 2 years ago at a large show in Chicago. I spent 10 to 15 minutes checking out coins in their display case, during which Harry Miller dealt with two customers who were both buying and selling. His assistant never asked if he could help, but just said that the owner was busy, and that I should keep waiting. I wandered off and spent my budget elsewhere.

I gave Miller's Mint another try at the same Chicago show a year ago. Fortunately, Harry's wife was there, and she was curteous enough. I showed her my want list and she took five coins out of the case. When I mentioned the referral from David Lawrence Rare Coins, she mentioned that Miller's Mint used to share a table with David Lawrence at shows many years ago, and that she and her husband learned much from them. She then got his attention, introduced us, and he made a slight deal (about 5% less than marked prices) on the raw coins I selected. I purchased four of the five for about $300.

A month ago, I showed up at the Milwaukee CSNS show at noon on Saturday, but they had already vacated the premises. I can only assume that they made enough deals earlier so that they couldn't justify the expense of sticking around to sell $50 to $100 raw coins to the likes of collectors like me who can't find a good selection of their favorites at local dealers.

I am now on Miller's Mint's catalog mailing list. They mention that they list minor problems other dealers would not mention, and that when they say minor problems, they mean minor. Nevertheless, I have not ordered any sight-unseen coins from them, although they usually have a great selection of coins I need. I love VF-AU Barbers but not so much that I can't live without them at fair full retail prices.

My opinion is that this is a reputable, busy, one-man shop. They do not get my penny-ante business unless I can first see the coins I wish to buy. If I lived on Long Island, and could pester them in person regularly, they would be one of my favorites.

I have know the Miller's for quite some time....sometimes are tables have been back to back or side to side...they are hardworking dealers and if they left a show early it would only be because of travel arrangments not because they dont want to sell low priced coins........sometimes its hard to get flights / times and we dealers just have to leave....when I fly back from west coast you just have to leave early otherwise you arrive back at some awful hour, plus with time change its really hard on mind and body.......please dont post if you cant stand the heat get out of the kitchen......my comment above is just basically that they are really nice folks trying to please...give em a try....image

I had only one dealing with them. It goes back about nine years ago. I bought a couple of coins, kept one, returned two ( as they were harshly cleaned ) and as I had paid by certified check I requested that they refund my money at their earliest convenience. I had to call them three times in the course of six weeks before I received my refund check. Needless to say, I wasn't too happy about it, and they never got another order from me.

There are too many other dealers out there, with better customer service, than to have to deal with begging for a refund.
