Well, the seller explicitly states that they "do their best to assign a value that indicates the potential asset value of the coin measured within the proximal relationship of existing price guide dynamics."

So all we can hope for is that some Ph.D. comes along to explain that sentence to us, and maybe we'll all understand better.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

Even using his convoluted double-speak formula, the value of a real PR70DCAM Accented Hair comes to about $36,000. Thus, he piles one fraudulent representation, (his assigned value of $200,000), upon another fraudulent representation, (his ridiculous formula based on the price guide for correctly graded PCGS material).

This seller needs his ass kicked for three reasons:

    1. Overvaluing the auction,
    2. Taking WAY too long to load the damn page, and
    3. Making the listing WAY too long.

If the coins were worth 10% of the mythical "assigned" (there's a hidden clue in 'assigned') value they would be worth a small fortune.

Deciding between his beautiful selection of Trugrade and PCI coins is like asking someone if they prefer stepping in dogsh!t or horsesh!t.

You think the seller would dump Ebay if he had $100,00- $200,000 coins but consistently got $50-$100 dollars for them. It is weird that the seller is satisfied selling a $200,000 coin for $100. That is why this hobby rules. There are sellers willing to give up so much profit and personal wealth to share with the little collector. image

    Russ,

I just sent Coinmovers the following email:

Question from eBay Member: 1964 ACCENTED HAIR KENNEDY~PR70 DEEP CAMEO~$200,000 (Item # 3916527883)

    Dear coinmovers,

Just curious -- does the Coin Universe price guide value a PCI PR70 DEEP CAMEO 1964 ACCENTED HAIR KENNEDY half dollar at anywhere near the $200,000 figure so prominently mentioned in your eBay auction? Gee, my knowledge of pricing may be somewhat askew so please help me out -- I don't wish to remain in the dark ages. Thank you...

To view the item, go to: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3916527883

    Thank you,
    coingame2003

I'll eagerly await his response -- and should I receive one I'll share it here.

    Arco,

This auction just started. He frequently gets $400 to $500 for these $20 to $30 coins.

    Mike,

I'll be very interested to see his response, if he responds at all. He's a member of these forums and lurks frequently.

    I'm torn:
Is it bad form to contact the high bidders here? Is it against eBay policy? It may be too late to retract their bid, but at least they'll have learned their lesson.

And then again, if you honestly think you've found the deal of a lifetime by bidding $500 for a coin that the seller claims is worth $200,000, don't you deserve what you get? Especially from a seller whose previous sales are easily accessible and that have similarly absurd values but that sold for a fraction of them?

It's not like you've done your homework and have discovered some unrecorded, ultra-rare variety or even a mistake in the listing that only you know about. He's actually directing the bidders to CU's price guide. They know that he knows what the "value" is, yet they still think they're pulling one over on HIM. Don't they need to take responsibility for their own actions?

    Android,

Surprisingly, he did respond to Mike and he IS lurking here. He linked this thread in a novel length, 90% canned response. It was clear reading it that he has it prepared and ready to go for what are no doubt numerous eMails about his fabricated values.

As wjd283 noted above, his forum handle is supracoin.

It is against eBay's auction interference policy and doing so can get you booted.

Don't know him , but thanks for the info. It's my hope that this is the kind of tripe the ANA and Ebay are discussing.

This one is clear criminal fraud. Those cases that have been successfully prosecuted in the past were always based on gross and deliberate value misrepresentation. This seller has skinned the unwary for many many thousands of dollars. Sooner or later, he'll end up in court - unless he skips first. But, his victims have to realize they've been taken, and that will take some time.

On first glance, I was impressed with their layout and details. Once you start reading the fine print, it's obviously a very amatuer job of writing, and marketing. Here are two excerpts that cracked me up.
