Does this mean an IMAGE must accompany a listing of coins/currency?? I hope so.

    It's a start, but I don't think it will change a thing.

No, but it does give eBay a little legal CYA should they decide to actually start shutting some of the slimeballs down.

This is, but part, of what will be coming out during the next month or so, based upon a cooperative effort between Ebay and the ANA.image This new Ebay policy pertains to the thread below - I have linked it in case anyone missed it previously:

I really don't believe this will change a thing. Did the electric chair or the hangman stop murderers? No. and I don't see how this helps. The answer is for eBay to split the coin categories into two parts. The first would allow only PCGS/NGC/ANACS and Mint products to be listed. The second part would be raw and any other slabs with a big eBay disclaimer stating your taking your chances. Will this ever be done? I seriously doubt it.

Here's a guy who has a real problem with the new guidelines.

Yeah, he's a whiner. I doubt the "ANA" can force a seller refund though when the auction states "NO returns". Or that the buyer will be sending the coin to ANA for an independant opinion; seems completely impractical to me.

Good opening gambit. It'll be interesting to watch the rest of the policy and implementation unfold. It's an idea that's time has come.

Ahh, just got my renewal in for the ANA. I'll definitely be re-upping! It's only a small step here, but small steps lead to great heights.

I wonder if the ANA's "selling guidelines" will include a mandatory return privilege?

Something is better than nothing. The ebay poster numismagician seems sufficiently upset about it so at least one ebay seller feels that this has teeth. As far as crying wof about grades....Learn to grade. If you don't know how, fiund someone who does. Not that hard. The other side of this is that the situation on ebay had begun to deteriorate considerably. If ebay did not police the market in thier perview then the FTC would have eventually (Although it would have been a long time coming). Fair assessments of the product being offered for sale are essential to any sellers legitamate success, anything else is an attempt to defraud.

Sounds like a good thing to me. However, it won't change how I personally choose the coins I bid on. I still will only bid on certified coins unless I trust the seller implicitly, I will only bid on coins with a decent picture, and only on coins with a decent return policy. I will still be checking out those feedbacks too.

    Eric,

That boy doesn't seem to have much faith in his own grading ability.

If it proves to have teeth -- and not just up front for show -- then it will weed out quite a few of them. It will be particularly telling if eBay goes after any of its PowerSellers, rather than just the small fry. At some point, you'd hope that eBay would realize that its laxity in chasing out the frauds hurts its own bottom line most. Every auction for an uncertified coin (and probably also to a lesser extent certified ones) suffers a "fraud penalty" to the price realized.

    wondercoin must be worried.

mitchell neednt worry, the man has done enough for me ill gladly send him one of my old digital cameras for nada and also provide him with instructions and support, would be the least I could do for him.

as for the new policy, may well just give pople who changed their mind to waste sellers time with needless returns...one never knows does one?
