Three cent question

Does anyone know how many surviving 1867 3 cent silvers there are likely estimated?

And while we're at it...........how do they arrive at estimates anyway? is it a percent of mintage over time or what?

PCGS has graded 30 in Mint State and 250 in Proof condition.
Of the business strikes, a WAG on my part would be 70 survivors in all conditions. Totally unscientific.

in my opinion 75% of 1867 proof trimes survive

so this means about 468 survive

    for proofs only

well this guesstimate has been proferred by many students/collectors/dealers over the years and based on what i have seen and are certified this is is a reasonable estimate

TAKING INTO reasonable attrition and these proof coins where not saved by or melted at the mint

Gem MS 1867 trimes are hard to find. Proofs are relatively abundant. For example I ahave one business strike and 6 proofs of this date.

Don't place much faith in survival estimates. They tend to understate the numbers, often by a wide margin.
