Notice the jump from $ 1080 to 1087........ Shouldn't there have been a $25 increment in there ?

that 1080 to 1087 was the highest that they bid.
    aandersen50 bid 1080 Max
    coinguy3688 Bid 1087 Max at that time (Jun-07-04 20:27:25 PDT )
then wilmingtoncoins bid a Max of 1,127.00
then coinguy3688 came back and Bid Highest.

Shouldn't the 1087 have been rejected as too low ?????? I would think the lowest bid after 1080 should have been 1105 ???

Depends what the starting bid was.
If when Jun-03-04 09:22:56 PDT US $1,080.00 aandersen50( 107) bid was placed that dosen't mean it was the starting bid.
You would have to check the auction to see what it started at.

If a auction starts at $1.00 and you bid $100.00 then I bid 100.01 it will show in the bid history that I bid 1¢ more. That is less than a bid increment at $100.

If the start price on the lot was lower (say $1000). The first bid of $1080 would only show as $1000 until a second bidder bids it up. That would allow a minimum bid of $1025 to be placed by the second bidder, but it would tell you that you had be outbid when you placed it, and the new high bid would be $1050 (a $25 raise over the second bid). If the second bidder bid $1087 then that would be permitted and only show as $1087 (as ebay can't raise it above that bid). If the second bidder had bid $2000, it would then show as $1105 (a $25 raise over the first bid). I hope that explaination is clear enough.

This was a great question, Longtimecollector, and one I've wondered about myself. If I understand correctly, the only time the bid increment is less than the minimum increment is when two bidders submit initial opening maximum bids. Is this correct, or can it also happen after the opening two bids?

It can happen anytime someone out bids someone by less than a full bid increment.

If the auction is at $10.00 and the current high bidders max bid is $20.00 and you bid $20.01 then you are the high bidder.

Thanks Placid, that makes sense. image That also explains many of those weird bids like $50.01. image

It can happen at any time in the auction. Even if a current shows as $1000, the high bidder may have bid $2000. If you bid on the item, you won't be high bidder unless you bid $2000.01. If you bid only $1050, you will automatically be outbid by the previous max bid and the new bid will show as $1075. Get it?

If a bid was $1000, and I entered $1087, it would go to $1025, and then if somebody put in $1075, my bid would proxy to $1087
