I think my paypal account has been hacked!

I just got this email a few minutes ago:

You have added laptopseller@yahoo.com as a new email address for your
PayPal
account.

If you did not authorize this change or if you need assistance with
your
account, please contact PayPal customer service at:

I don't know who this is or how they add thier email to my account. No one is at paypal today because of the holiday. What shall I do???

It is likely a scam email. It's very common. You can try logging into paypal (but do NOT use ANY link from the email) and verifying the addresses. But it's 99.999% certain to be a scam.

DO NOT RESPOND TO THIS E-MAIL. It sounds like a scam.

Lot onto Paypal directly and check it out. Trust me on this one.

dont click any link, as its a keystroke virus..do as nwcs said and log onto paypal itself.

Call them at 1-888-221-1161

Also click on the Security Center link on the bottom of the PayPal page to report it.

Delete the other email address and CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD

Not thinking I clicked on the link and it takes you to a screen where it asks you for your credit card info, CVV number and PIN numbers. Pay pal has never has never asked me for my CV number or PIN. So it's a fake! I gave them nothing!

I logged into my account and this email address is not listed. I called Paypal but there is no phone customer service today. They are all out because of the holiday. It's been report via the security center.

I've gotten the same eMail a couple times. It's a pretty clever approach compared to most of the lame scam attempts.

When you clicked on the link on the E-mail you might have infected your computer with a keystroke virus. If this is the case they already have your Paypal information from you logging on. Do you have a firewall? If not, install Zone Alert, which is free, and then change your Paypal password. Zone Alert will inform you if any program attemps to access the I'net and you can block them. Then you need a virus program like AVG (free) to find the virus and delete it. Good luck.

Have you checked your Paypal account? Last spring someone got at my wife and I via e-Bay/Paypal. Luckily, we were able to close accounts for both cc and bank. It was frightening. To this day, I CONTINUALLY, I mean CONTINUALLY, receive bogus msg that look just like a e-Bay or Paypal. All of them originate from a "EU" world domain, or the Netherlands. The last Paypal fake I got told me someone was entering my account from a foreign IPP and if it was not me, then my paypal account was hijacked. They told me to go to my account through their e-mail!! NO NO NO!!!. The msg said if I didn't take immediate action that it would be my---now take note!!---"My Choise" see the miss spelling of the word "Choice"??? I've received several bogus e-Bay msgs this past month alone. Three were quaranteened by my local server because they contaied viruses, one was a keystroke!!. Right behind some of the bogus paypal/e-Bay msgs I sometimes get one from from cc company, that's bogus also. Later in the week I'll put a post up about exactly what happened to us.

Also, did you try to trace the IPP address? My computer guy put a website on my computer for me that traces them.

got the same one the other day !
called paypal and was told they are aware of it.
i would call them anyway just to be sure !
and change passwords if you clicked on it !
never ever click a link to paypal or ebay !
always use the browser addy you have !

That could be a scam email, and if you use the link provided, pay attention to the address. I received a very similar email to an email account that isn't associated with my paypal account, so I knew right away that was a scam. When I clicked on the link provided, the address was briefly www.dasmarket. something I don't remember, before it switched to an address that was similar but not quite a paypal address. If I were you, I would go directly to the paypal website and log in. Chances are nothing has changed on your account.

keystroke virus????. Does using cut/paste of passwords have any pro or cons to it??. Basically I keep all passwords encrypted (on a txt) and when I need one I decrypt then cut/paste into the field. How does this look to a keyword virus??

It sounds like a scam, don't click any links, change your password and call them at 1-888-221-1161. They will tell where to forward the email.......

If you click on the link in the email it sends you to a paypal log in screen asking you for your email address and password. When you sign in you are taken to another screen with this message:

Paypal is conducting a random security check and your account has been selected. Please update the following information so we may up date your account. It asks for your credit card number, bank account number, the CV numbers on the back of your credit card and the PIN number for the card.

When it asked for this info I didn't give it. Yes, I clicked the link but did not provide any of the info asked. I copied all the info and sent it to paypal and changed my password.

I have a firewall and all my virus programs are up dated so I am not worried about that. I have gotten a similar email like this before and just blew it off. This one was the best on yet because it look more authentic than any of the others I've seen.

If you have a firewall and anto virus program there isn't much to worry about.

What amazes me me is how many people are suckered by these E-mails. One simple rule I alway follow, never click on a E-mail link. No one except a crook will ask for information via E-mail.

You need to change your password ASAP, but do it through a verifiable paypal login screen.

Yes he did give away his password, but he also then changed it so he should be ok.

What I like about the email he got the provided a clickable link and then at the bottom included the standard Paypal advice to ALWAYS log in through the Paypal site

I got this same exact email last week, I immediately exited my email, went to paypal, checked my account, and to no big surprise found there was no new email address. So I forwarded it to spoof@paypal.com and deleted it.

Oh, and I took everyone's advice. I forwarded the email to spoof@paypal.com and then deleted it. I also logged on to paypal to verify that there is no email address added to my account.
What is really sad is that some poor soul will probably fall for this and give away all their information before they realize it's a scam.
