My new puchase, a low grade coin

link to my purchase

I just bought it from David Lawrence. It's not a problem-free coin (I'm not sure if the scratch is on the coin or the holder - most likely on the coin). But it is rare enough for me to justify buying it. It will be a nice companion for my holed 1805 half dime which has an estimated population of 75-125 pieces.

Does anyone know the estimated population for this date?

Now an interesing question assuming that the coin is problem free what grade it would receive at PCGS? I curious about grading a coin which obverse and reverse are at least grades apart example AG obv. and vg or fine rev.

I would guess it might be in a SEGS holder because PCGS wouldn't grade it for some reason.

I saw that on the website. Would be nice with just a little detail on the rev.

I looked at that coin too! I'm really looking for an 1800-1805 1/2 dime but that scratch on the reverse made me hesitate. IF PCGS were to grade the coin - and there's some question in my mind, I'd say it would be an AG03......the reverse is a PO01 (if its not ganular) and the obverse is more like a G4 (nice portrait details but weak peripheries)......I have both AG3 and FR02 coins with similar detail levels so that's why I'd guess Ag3. I like the coin....wish I could have seen it in my hand!

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised to find the scratch is on the holder and not the coin. As off as SEGS is on the grade (FA02 reverse? No... no way. Craig's right: PO01, and the obverse is, of course, not even close to VG), they're usually pretty good at denoting serious problems- such as that scratch, if indeed, it was on the coin.
