Just Venting -- Heritage

Got a call today from Heritage credit department -- why haven't you made payment because you should already have the coin? Yes, I have the coin and I made payment over the internet over 2 weeks ago. The status on your website lists it as "payment received." Arg!!!!!

Third time something like this has happened. First time they simply lost all electronic data, including my payment info, for two weeks. Didn't know that until the credit department called. Second time I paid but the coin was misplaced in the mail room and fell behind a desk. Two months and a call later, I get the coin.

How long has this crap been going on at Heritage? For as long as I've done business with them. Complaining doesn't do a bit of good. Most people won't even answer their phone. When David Lawrence picks up the volume, I'm leaving Heritage forever. My god, how hard is it to process a credit card payment and send the coin out?

Welcome to America. It's not just the coin industry.

What I find ironic about Heritage is, they will send my $20,000 coins on approval but when I win a $1,000 coin in one of their auctions they won't ship the coin until my check clears!image

They seem to be very unorganized. They like to send repeat billing after you have paid.

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

I tend to agree. Overall, they do a decent (but not outstanding) job with transactions. I think if you need more personal attention, it is better dealer with a smaller auctioneer or dealer. If they are going to work on improving something, I would suggest coin photography as an area where improvement might actually increase their business and make their buyers and consigners happier.

I've never had a problem with them. Wish I could say the same about all that I've dealt with.

  • Just my opinion, but I noticed a marked improvement in the Heritage photos, both in the catalogue and on the web, for the Long Beach auction. As a current consignor, I know they are working very hard on this issue. I have been generally very pleased with the photos of my coins. I think there are still issues with some of the super high grade proofs, cameos, pl, dmpl's, etc. They responded to compaints about the copper coins being to dark by putting in this new feature that allows one to lighten the web image. I'd at least give them an "A" for effort.

Ya, but too bad those transactions aren't mine. Problem rate running at about 33% for my transactions. Oh ya, I'm not the one worrying though they should be. If I owned the company I would ax all of the top level management. Ok, now for the start of my 3 day weekend ....

I have a good sized credit line with HEritage but when I used it once they keep sending me payment letters when payments were already made. Also, they will not send me coins without payment even though I have credit with them. Too many problems so I just mainly pass on their offerings.

I only buy coins from them as a last resort and pay in person at the show with a check.

"Problem" rate is 100% with mine. I've just learned to ignore it. The coin shows up promptly and they always figure out the billing eventually.

Bought 30 or 40 coins from Heritage over the years - yet to have a single problem. We talking about the same company?

I've had multiple problems with Heritage even though I will continue to participate in their auctions.

Once, they tried to force me to pay extra for a coin I purchased from them.

Twice, they've double charged me for the same coin.

Also, just over three weeks ago I won a coin from their CSNS Signature Sale. I paid the day my invoice appeared on their website (three days after the auction closed). At first I recieved an email saying "thank you for your payment". Then I received an email saying "we cannot obtain approval with this card" even though I've used this same card for years with Heritage and currently carry $0.00 balance. Then I recived an email saying my "item has been shipped". Then I received an email saying "we are still waiting for you to pay your open invoice". Heritage finally figured out what they had done wrong and I recieved the item last Tuesday, 20+ days after paying for the item.

Considering I've paid a 15% buyers fee on an $800+ item AND paid something like $10 to have it shipped, I expect better service than this.
