Nice!!! I love that it's a clashed die too. I think it would be really great if you would do some posts on some VAMs for us. You seem to have a great deal of knowledge on them, and I would love to see you elaborate on some of them.....think about it?
Jack, You are the cherry pickin' man! That is -BY FAR- the nicest 87-O Pitted reverse I've ever seen! I've looked for them a lot and all the attributed ones I've seen were AU at best. What a great find.
Watched a tape about 1830's US coinage where they claimed the pitting was due to the die literally detiorating and falling apart, not rusted. But for Morgan dollars, the claim is Rusted dies from water/moisture laying in the die. That's why it only appears on the reverse and never on the obverse.
