Slightly OT British coin question

My wife is leaving tonight for London, and I'm sifting through some of my spare foreign pocket change for some British money. I have some 1/2 new pence coins -- are they still good or have they been demonetized? image

½p coins were last minted in 1984 and demonetized shortly thereafter.

Also, florin sized 10ps, shilling sized 5ps and the larger 50ps have been demonetized.

"Petrol (Gas) is now 83.9p per litre. It costs me around £50 to fill my car with fuel. Someone translate that to $ and gallons please..."

    That's 0.839 pounds/litre X 3.785 litres/gallon X 1.80 dollars/pound = 5.72 dollars/gallon!!!

And I complained because it cost me $34 to fill up my car yesterday.... imageimageimage

How can you afford that Lloyd? I know that I have already started the conversation with my boss to let me work from the house since it costs me about 3 gallons a day to make the round trip to the office. I haven't gotten the ok yet, but I think that I will.

After having picked myself up off the floor in shock at the prices image, I wanted to thank y'all for the help. She's going to be in London for two months on an internship, so I guess she'll need a lot more than the small bag of coins I gave her. image

Let's see about £50 to fill the car? that would be about $92USD in petrol in the states. But people here in the state like to drive lorrysimage
