Slightly OT British coin question

My wife is leaving tonight for London, and I'm sifting through some of my spare foreign pocket change for some British money. I have some 1/2 new pence coins -- are they still good or have they been demonetized?

That's 0.839 pounds/litre X 3.785 litres/gallon X 1.80 dollars/pound = 5.72 dollars/gallon!!!
How can you afford that Lloyd? I know that I have already started the conversation with my boss to let me work from the house since it costs me about 3 gallons a day to make the round trip to the office. I haven't gotten the ok yet, but I think that I will.
