O.J. Simpson at the Nationals!? Good idea or bad?
I just received an email from Tracercode saying that they have an agent that would like to bring O.J. Simpson to the Nationals this year in Cleveland, Ohio. They were asking for everyone's opinions on whether it would be a good idea or a bad idea to bring him in. I personally think it is a great idea figuring he is a HOFer, Bills Super star RB, and a 2,000 yard rusher. Also he was never convicted of the crime. I posted this thread to hear everyones opinions on him possibly being at the Nationals.
Thanks

just because he was not convicted does not mean he did not do it,he got off do to the jury being "star struck"...fame & money=power=freedom when guilty as sin.
Will not change until murder means more than a guys stats in pro-sports.
2323..could not agree more!!!

He was a super football player and I would like to have his autograph in my collection, but I think it's a bad idea that questionable people (albeit, not proven so) are associated with an American Pastime such as the National. IMO and regards.

Sorry, but once you are in the lime light EVERYTHING about your life is fair game, including brutally murdering 2 people.
He was convicted in a civil court of law, in relation to both of those murders; it was only because of some very bad prosecution that he was let off in the criminal court system.
I would even go so far as to say, that anyone planning on going to the Nationals; call, email, western union the organizers of the event & tell them NOT to allow this scumbag anywhere near this great hobby event & if they do let him come that you won't be attending.
Just my opinion, of course.
As far as him getting on with his life; I am sure the 2 people that he brutally murdered would sure love to have been doing that themselves; but then they aren't able to because of OJ.

<< <i>People don't seem to think Kobe being able to play basketball is a bad thing, so why can't O.J. get on with his life? I have no problem with him doing it, he was one of the best athlete's ever, and that is what the show is about, not his private life. He was found innocent, and like it or not, whether he did it or not, is between him and his maker and not for us to say. People are innocent until proven guilty, and he wasn't proven, so I choose to not be bigoted in my thinking ...my point of view, and not ashamed to say it..
I would definately pay for an autograph to add to my collection. Too many media drones it seems.
<< <i>Cause there is a BIG difference between rape accusations and murder. Everyone knows that he killed those two people and got off of it. I watched almost the whole trial and I would have convicted myself. I have been up to date on the Kobe trial as well and it sounds like she is money hungrey to me. >>
No, I don't think he killed them (but do think he knows who did it). We've been down this road many times. Where the prosecution shot themselves in the foot is when they said he did it and "acted alone". And you said you've been up to date on the Kobe trial.... the trial hasn't even started yet. That's what they have been working on... a set date for the actual trial to start.

Well that was too funny. I don't care if it's rape (Kobe), murder (OJ) or BNE (Cecil Collins), it's wrong. To insinuate that we would all have no interest in getiing an autograph from a murderer, but would line up to get an autograph from a rapist is hilarious. Guess it shows how some people think and why many woman never actually report the crime. Talk about money hungry, his wife is still with him after he admitted he still slept with this girl. Why? Diamond...
And as auto pointed out, we're glad you have watched the trial that has yet to happen. You know Kobe did it. And as I've said before, if he isn't he should still be convicted of stupidity as he had to have known what the consequences could be...
I personally don't care whether he's guilty or not. There were many many things that seemed "fishy" about both OJ and the police throughout the whole case and we will likely never know the real story.
Sure, he should be able to go on with his life (like he has) simply because he was not found guilty criminally, but there are still many people that think he likely did it and I simply think it would cast a shadow over the show. It would be similar to Barry Bonds giving strength and conditioning classes right now. With the accusations currently going on with him and steroid use, it would seem a bit ironic.
And just so there's no confusion, I'd certainly still step in line for an auto of OJ's...
<< <i>Are the Nationals that hard up for athletes to appear at thier show? Seems real strange out of all the great sports figures out there that fans would love to see, they have to lift up a garbage can & dig this vermon up.

If it was up to you, NO ONE would be at the Nationals. Let's go back in history. Ty Cobb. Some people would fall in the floor if they pulled his autograph card. Ty Cobb was a racist... ok, next up. Mickey Mantle. Argurable the highest profile player in baseball history. Mickey Mantle was an alcoholic. Some role model (using Bob star's train of thought).
So, you mean to tell me that you have NEVER lied, cheated, or did ANYTHING to keep you from being on the level of Mother Teresa. If you have, then you are a hypocrite.
Well nobody other than myself is perfect
Would Mickey Mantle have been the perfect choice if he were still living? No, probably not. But when most people think of the Mick, they usually think Yankees & homeruns. They don't immediately think
"alcoholic". With OJ, many no longer think Heisman or great running back first...
But they could decide to have the All-Time Sports Losers convention and go with Carruth, Rose, McClain, Cecil Collins, Kobe, Dexter Manley, LT, etc...

Still OJ would be there for his football career, not his personal life. And if people got a "personal" problem with OJ, then they need to stay away from the "Sports" show because they are there for the wrong reason. A lot of athletes are arrogant and jerks, BUT when going to get an autograph, I don't think about their "outside the field" personality. But how they handled themselves on the field/court. That's why it's called "sports memorabilia" to remind you of their sports careers.
Thanks

<< <i>You all have valid points on whether O.J. should attend the nationals or not. Since I created this thread to hear everyone's opinions im not gonna go pick through everyones replies. Its very unlikely weill ever know if O.J. is guilty or innocent. I feel that since he was never found guilty people can't call him a murder if no one knows for sure. I feel people should just let him go on with his life and let him do what he wishes without people always bringing him down. If O.J. wants to attend the nationals let him and respect his decision to be there. He would be doing a nice thing going to the Nationals and signing autographs for people. I thought it would be neat to get a bills mini helmet autographed by him.
Thanks
Seth >>
I feel this way. If you have a "personal" problem with OJ, don't pay to get his autograph (your way of boycotting). But for those who have respect for his "football career", then get his autograph. People and hypocrites alike always trying to push their views onto others. Just do what you do or act the way you wish and move on.
Well as I said, I really don't care because I wont be going. But what if they had a guy like Rocker there?
You know, Mr. Racist of the new millennium. Wouldn't that be considered very inappropriate by many of the people attending the show? He claims many of his comments were taken out of context, but the fact is many people view him as a racist. Now granted, his career hasn't created a whirlwind of interest in the sporting world, but if it had would it have been a good idea to have him there.
Like it or not (ala Chuck Barkley), sports personalities are viewed as role models by many children. I'm not saying a kid that shakes OJ's hand is going to run out and kill someone. I'm also not one of those government freaks who thinks playing video games is going to cause me to kill kittens. But I am saying that I believe they do have some form of a responsibilty to try to promote the athletes that may be viewed favorably in all lights, not just the sports field. To compare, what about inviting a guy like Pete Rose? Sure, he's considered one of the best hitters (if not the best) ever. But many of the baseball purists feel what he did was worse that murder (although I don't share in that opinion). Sure, many would want his auto but many would be appalled by the fact he was there.
As I've said before, I truly don't care at all. But it does effect the atmosphere of the show. To go back to Rocker, sure he may not be a racist. But if I owned a store that was frequented by blacks, asians and other minorities I certainly would not employ him as a cashier... My business would likely hit the crapper...
And just so we're not confused auto, you cannot tell me that if you saw OJ, Rose, Kobe or LT is wouldn't cross your mind that these guys may have been murderers, a rapist, a cheater or a druggie? C'mon...
You people make me laugh
Your all so quick to label Kobe a racist when in fact it might have been consensual sex
Is he guilty of adultry ? Of course but don't accuse him of something that hasn't been proven yet and with todays news ( read the link ) it's only furthering my belief that he is innocent
In the end Kobe will be guilty of the same crap the majority of these athletes are guilty of, cheating . Including the Great One Mr Jordan himself .
If the people on this board only knew what some of their sport heroes were doing outside of the lines perhaps they wouldn't be so quick to judge others favorite players. Because it's not in the news dosen't mean these guys are all saints
I didn't call him a racist...lol
Oh ok. You must have been insinuating maybe Rose as the rapist lol
Sure the spelling is only one letter different, but the definitions are completely different--though both are bad.
<< <i>I called Rocker a racist, Rose a cheater and Kobe a rapist...
Rose not a cheater. He just betted on his team to win.
Well that's the first of what he admitted to after years of denial. There were other accusations that he will probably admit to when he writes another book

<< <i>Truth usually comes out in the long run, and as I said before it is between them and their maker, and not for us to be judge and jury. So the judge & the jurors in the trial were playing god?
A lot of people run from the police because of fear (doesn't mean guilt). The police are not angels. If they were, Mark Furman would have never been on the witness stand getting slammed. There are good cops and there are a lot of dirty cops. For example, if you were innocent of something and a lawyer told you to plee bargain and turn yourself in (to get life in prison instead of the death penalty), would you still go knowing you were innocent? A lot of innocent people go to jail because of poor representation. A good example of that was Mike Tyson. He had his personal advisor represent him instead of a certified lawyer. Every lawyer interviewed after the verdict said the evidence was so weak that a public defender would have got him acquitted.
I dare say that most all people who might have racial views different from others sure aren't going around killing people. As I said in my original statement, of all the great sports stars out there the Nationals could have chosen, there are so many who would be far more deserving to put on a national stage than this scumbag OJ.
Like others have said, we are all entitled to our own opinion & this is mine.
None of us are angels & I am willing to give the next person the benefit of the doubt but if it were possible, which it's not, I would hazard a guess that there wouldn't be a thread like this one if we found out Ty Cobb was going to be there instead of killer oj.

actaully in the preliminary hearing they are working on the evidence that will be allowed to be submitted into court, they work on the date of the trial after kobe makes a plea wich just happened a couple of weeks ago.
Bobstar, i dont see how OJ being at nationals would be that much of a big deal. I do think he is guilty but i would have no problem with him being there, i mean unless he was going to murder me, but i think that would be unlikely.

<< <i>A reasonable (and innocent loving husband) would likely be mourning his wifes death with family and friends or something more than rushing down the interstate in the back of a Bronco. How you going to mourn something that you are accused of doing? You can't mourn with family and friends when you are locked up. The Bronco incident happened AFTER he was already being charged with the double murder.
<< <i>autobilia- Comparing someone who might have had racial views with someone who was convicted in a civil court of being liable for the death of 2 people is absurd; needless to say.

Since you so caught up in the murder thing. Let me show you the thin line. If you kill another American, you are a criminal. If you kill someone in war, you are a hero. Something wrong with that picture. And a racist is just as bad as a murderer because he is like a virus. He teaches hate to his kids and they teach hate and racism to their kids, etc. You definately got life screwed up.

<< <i>The media plays a huge part in what everyone thinks. They usually take a story and spice it up just to get better rating and stuff. Many stories are stretched and go beyond the truth. The media can have a side to itself where it can brainwash people into thinking whatever they tell them. I think everyone needs to stop listening to all the media and all the bull crap that gets tossed.
Seth >>
The media CONTROLS people. People, in general, are gullable to the point that they never bother to look into what they hear on their own. I remember when a good friend of mine was killed and they said he was stabbed multiple times (this was on the local news), but he was shot 4 times and there was no knife involved. The media reports rumors a lot in order to be FIRST to report the news. That's why you hear them use the term "from a reliable source" or "sources close to the investigation". They also do persuasive writing to get the read to feel the same way they do. They do include facts, but you can tell they lean one way or the other.
