Honestly, I'm not positive... in hand, it is very clean... as was said by Mark, the marks on this coin are MUCH smaller when they're on a nickel, and not a monitor I was going with uncirculated for now
Actually, I graded that 1937 buffalo as MS-63PQ not because it was a terrible coin or anything. Indeed it is a choice BU coin but not near gem.
Here are my reasons:
(1) Strike on the obverse is on the weak side at the center. The edges are sharp (lettering and feather and top of the head) but becomes real weak in the center. The knot is real smooth. The ponytail is not much better.
(2) The tops of THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA lettering on the reverse are not complete but as you migrate towards the center, the coin becomes prgressively sharper.
(3) The obverse by the ponytail appear to show movement of metal whether planchet based, die based or during the process of rolling the coin. I cannot be sure.
(4) The luster looks good but can't tell if outstanding or not.
These first 3 items limit the grade. The coin in fact, looks clean for the grade.
