What do you think Russ's IPOTAD means?

08HALA2008HALA20 Posts: 3,066 ✭✭✭
I think it might mean:

I
Prey
On
The
Accented-hair
D-cams

image

Or more seriously:

In
Proofs
Only
Tolerate
Abundant
D-cams

Or, my coin buying philosophy

Indecent
Passion
Overtaking
Talented
Adult
Deviant

Not being the most creative one in this forum.

I am sure others might have some more creative ideas.

Isn't it "I Pursue Old, Tired, Antiquated Denominations"?

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

The #1 set of all time is owned by Edson Santos, and the #2 set of all time is owned by Larry Brown, both forum members here. Both sets are comprised of very expensive coins that are out of reach for me, so I'll never be higher than third unless they sell.

Edited to add: Unless I find them raw and submit them myself. image

You can view all the sets here.

That Edson Santos set is unbelievable.

What a nice looking PR70 DC coin.

Can't imagine what that goes for?

Russ, even if they sell the #1 and #2 sets, isn't true you'll still be number 3? My short-lived registry experience had me concluding that unless you top those sets, you are stuck there. Maybe I should clarify...if they de-list the set then maybe it is gone? But if they sell the coins to someone else (maybe a non-registry person), that set will always be listed there until beaten, right?

My bad, you're correct. They'd stay in the ATF, so I'd still be at #3 there. A sale would move me up in the current finest, though.

Hey Russ, don't you get a pedigree now that you're in the top three? You gonna get your set done up with the IPOTAD pedigree?
  • RussRuss Posts: 48,514 ✭✭✭
    Robert,

I'm pretty sure moderns are not eligible for the pedigree service. I wouldn't do it anyway since, as long as I own the set, I'm always going to hunting for upgrades.

When you figure out what IPOTAD means then tell us what NCNE means.

Does NCNE mean "Need Coins, Never Enough"?
IPOTAD has me beat though. In Pursuit Of The Almightly Dollar seems to be the only thing that works.

Okay, here's the deal. IPOTAD is an acronym for In Praise Of The Almighty Dollar. It's a domain name I own where I used to have a site that basically made fun of those opposed to capitalism. Here's part of the index page:

!WARNING! (This was a red flashing graphic like you might see at a porno site)

This sight contains material of a common sense nature that may be offensive to some people, for example; communists and LIBERALS! If you voted for Slick Willy, or believe that the homeless guy on the street corner is really going to spend your hard-earned money on food, then LEAVE NOW! EXIT (The exit linked to disney.com)

WELCOME TO THE REALM OF IPOTAD , WHERE YOU WILL FIND NO APOLOGIES FOR THE PURSUIT OF THE AMERICAN DREAM! Here you will find no hand-wringing for the "victims" of society (in this country, unless you're handicapped, you have no one to blame but yourself), and no bashing of the wealthy! (have you ever gotten a job from a poor person?).

You will find no Political Correctness here at IPOTAD, and no hyphenated nationalities. WE ARE ALL JUST PLAIN AMERICAN. In fact, the ONLY important color is GREEN, as in money!

What you will find is a celebration of Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Property. ("PROPERTY" was in the first draft of the Declaration of Independence and was later changed to "HAPPINESS"). It is this pursuit that has built our country into a nation without peer, and provided us with an abundance seen nowhere else on Earth!

I got bored with it, so when I got in to this coin collecting thing, I switched it to a coin site and named my sets IPOTAD.

As for "NCNE", that's computer-related and a tag I started using years ago at tech BBS's. It's a slam on all the kids who, back in the roaring '90's, thought they were God's gift to the industry because they did a brain dump and got a paper cert, but were basically lost in the real world of computer hardware. It's an acronym for No Certifications No Education.

I see what Russ says about NCNE. And I must admit... the study exams are taken straight from the tests, that you can literally just go through the practice exams over and over and memorize the answers. I just did 10 question tests, and did it about a dozen times and every time I'd get at least 1 or 2 questions I'd seen before and had memorized the answers. Nowadays, employers don't just want paper experience, they want real experience. The certs are good... but at least 2 years in the working world helps you with job hunting...

That's interesting Russ. I feel the same way about the certs. I am a AABA, CCNA, CCAI, A+, N+, iNet+, Server+, ACST and a few others I forget right now. The CCAI is a Cisco certified academy instructor. But, I cut my teeth on a Radio shack model one programming in basic and went from there. I have sold several commecrcial programs and quit that after I got bored of programming. The certs came on a whim one summer. They made absolutelty no difference in the grand scheme of things. I had many a student that was there for the paper and that was all. I made life a little difficult for those folks image

To make sure this is a coin related message, I still think it should be :
In Praise of the Almighty HALF Dollar
