Results of 1921 Peace Dollar Cross: Pop-1 PCGS PO01

I posted pictures of this coin about 40 days ago tosolict thought as to whether the coin would cross (it was in a PCI Poor-1 holder). I also posted aththe same time a PCGS FR02 1921 for comparision. As I recall, the Board was about evenly split between those that thought it would cross and those that didn't. The main reason for suggesting the coin would not cross was the reverse rim ding about4 o'clock. O those that said it would cross, the Board was again about evenly split between those guessing PO01 and those guessing FR02.

And the answer is.........crossed at PCGS PO01 as a pop 1/2810 higher graded!

here's the PCGS Holdered PO01, followed by the original PCI Poor-1 holder (same coin) and the PCGS FR02 for comparison.

I would have also guessed PO01. Rim dings are generally acceptable at this grade level.

Pretty cool! There's no date indicated on the PO01 piece is there?

MS70, yes - it is noted as a 1921 High Relief. As its a distinguishable 1-year type, the piece doesn't need a date to be graded. Had the coin been a 1922-1935 example, it would not have been graded due to the lack of a date.

Coingratulations, Colorfulcoin. I have been working on an an abysmal type set, and this coin would fit perfectly in it. It's tough finding coins with so much wear but no damage. I scoured the recent CSNS show for "pop-bot" coins but didn't find anything this choice. I did find an 1872 (or perhaps 1878 or even 1879) Seated Liberty Half there in similar, undamaged condition, at 2% of what it would have cost me to have it slabbed there at show rates.

I doubt we'll see a registry set craze for "pop-bot" coins, but I'm an eager buyer for these anyway. Where's Braddick?
