demand for pop top/non-superlative coins

Hi All,
With the results of my last submission, I was wondering about the interest or demand for pop top coins in series that aren't graded with the superlative. Let me explain. I made a 1954-D Jefferson in MS66. Checking the pop report, the coin is currently a 3/0 in 66 and a 1/0 in 66FS. But in 65FS I think the pop is in the mid 40's. Because of the registry "weights", does a MS66 non FS coin have the same value as a 64FS coin? Is this an accurate reflection of value? Anyone care to comment or add a little?

I would say it greatly depends on the person's search for the strike designator. Myself, I would generally prefer the 66 to the 64 FS because of eye appeal and that I don't care too much about strike designations. However, if I had a choice between a 65 FS and a 66, I would probably go with the FS because generally a FS nickel is well struck and is still nice. I haven't done a lot of price shopping to validate my thoughts, but this is the way I approach it.
