2 Buffalo Nickel questions.......

1. What would it cost to put together a set in MS60-63, PCGS of course? Just a ballpark figure.
2. Is the PCGS pop of 536 for all 38 D/D a reflection of the coins rarity or just a relatively new identified variety and thus not many have been graded? 536 seems awful low.

Thanks, Chris

    1. If those are the grades (ie prices) you are looking for you would be FAR better off trying to find AU58's instead of the low end MS grades. MS63s can be good but if it's a lusterous coin it will probably lack in strike. An AU is an AU so you might get a BOTH luster and strike. Plus, it is a CHALLENDGE. It will probably take years to put a nice set together. As to cost, just use the PCGS guide (which admittedly is a bit high but if you end up buying PQ coins it might balance out) and go down the MS63 column and add it up.

    2. Do really know. I don't pay much attention to those varieties.

    Chris,

Are you looking to complete the set with varieties? If so, a 1916 ddo and a 18/7 together alone might run you $100K in MS and I would say another $50K to complete in MS. As far as the 38 D/D I would say it's a relatively new variety is why the pop is low.

    Paul
