1886 Morgan $ VAM 1C (3 + 2) Need Information!!!

Does anybody have any information about this VAM?

VAM 1C (3 + 2).

Rarity?

Current Premium?

Any information would be appreciated.

he 1886 was identified as a VAM 1C (3+2) clash by Wolf. He posted a good picture of one, but didn't think it was a VAM 1C because my scans stunk, and it was the exact one in question on this topic. I have better scans of the key areas.

They look like red arrows

- seriously it looks like die clashing. Look at the other side of the coin and see if the design elements match. mike

The die has been warped in some way, possibly from excess clashing.

What you have there is a pretty good die clash. If you look on the obverse, you should also find traces of it, there should be a "spike" coming out of Liberty's neck.

You may also want to work on compressing your images. The file sizes are huge compared to the physical size.

Thanks, k6az and all the others. This is very enlightening. I will look at the obverse and see how much of the clash I can see on the other side. I hadn't noticed it until I was casually looking for VAMs in the dates of some of my coins. The obverse is super-toned and I hadn't noticed anything. I only looked at the reverse and saw small distractions like this and wondered what the heck they were. I keep this coin at my house because it has such a beautiful obverse. (the picture in my name is the obverse.) Now, just a couple more questions.

What do these "die clash" coins sell for? Should I run and put it in the bank vault? Just for curiosity's sake. Not selling.

Is there a certain VAM attributed to them?

Because if there is, I haven't seen one in the Encyclopedia of Morgan and Silver Dollars. I was using it to find VAMs in the dates and mintmarks when I found this. I didn't find it in the book so I figured I'd ask you guys. -Thanks

If the top clash is tripled, it's VAM-1C (3+2 clash), a Hot-50 coin with a fair premium.

Doesn't look like it though...

Nice find. Hard to say on the premium. $100 - $125 in 2000 (last update of the Hot 50 prices). I'd look at dealer sales, ebay to find current values.
