These show the most desirable. Technically, every Morgan and Peace Dollars are a VAM. But some are more desirable which usually goes for a premium. It`s also considered a specialized field in the collecting of Morgans and Peace Dollars.
Every coin made is from a die (mint term). Each die has unique characteristics. If none can be found, on Morgan dollars this is called the normal variety and is assigned "VAM-1 Normal Die". If a different coin has a date in a slightly different position, it might be named "VAM-2: Date Shifted Left", etc.
A vam is a unique obverse and reverse (front and back) die. So the same reverse may have 2 or 3 different obverses. Each has a unique vam.
Vams are only used for Morgan dollars. Around 2,500 - 3,000 are known.
