When buying silver, do you prefer

  • Personally, I'd love to own a few ingots. Too expensive for me to get, unfortunately.
  • Although I don't personally recommend buying silver, if I did, it would be 100-ounce bars. The higher the quantity, the lower the per-ounce cost and the lower the transaction cost. Yes, you can also buy junk silver coins for below melt value, but, IMO, this is just too much work. I like to keep things clean and simple.

Check out a Vanguard Roth IRA.
  • I would either buy a sealed tube of ASEs or go with the 10 oz bars.
  • I actually prefer 1oz bars, but they're a little tough to find unless you like those "art bars" (which I don't like)

Collect full set of silver eagles, PCGS MS69. Hey, get two, three, four sets, whatever.
    Pretty.
Would not take possession of the bullion bars or silver junk bags, however.
    Too heavy.
    Weight adds up.
Buy into a "pool account" at KITCO.
Easy to trade all the bullion that way and not have to take possession unless you want to.

  • RR: if buying into a pool account at Kitco, you might as well buy paper silver on COMEX. When push comes to shove, and there isn't enough physical silver to go around, the big dealers, not the little guys, will get their silver first.
I heard they were making a French version of Medal of Honor. I wonder how many hotkeys it'll have for "surrender."

    Good point, ddink.
Although, futures has the time variable.

  • Given that there are so many millions of ounces on paper, I have been amazed lately at how difficult it is to buy 1000 ounces of silver and take physical delivery. We have been buying silver and some dealers just don't have any, or they have odd forms of the stuff, like art bars, or 90% bags, etc. I am trying to buy 3000 ounces today and many places just don't have it on hand.

Dennis: Interesting observation - -sort of like there may be a shortage of the physical metal on demand, but alot of silver available "on paper" -- sounds like the shorts are currently ruling the scene...image

    That will change over time...image
