NEWPS -- guess the grades - grades revealed!

Thanks to a good stock pick, I decided to splurge a little and buy a pair of type coins that I'd always wanted. Anyone care to guess the grades?

1849-D Dollar, PCGS AU-50

1847-C 5 Dollar, PCGS XF-45

Thanks -- I had set aside a certain amount to splurge on coins not part of my normal sets (liberty nickels and Indian quarter eagles). It took me a while to decide what to get. I was leaning towards a flowing hair dollar, but in the end decided two coins was better than one.

1st. Maybe a weak strike on the obv. Most details are better than the hair. I'll say AU55

2nd. AU50

The gold dollar was previously in an ANACS XF-40 holder, just got it back from PCGS AU-50 (which was closer to what I thought it should be).
The 5 dollar is in a PCGS XF-45 holder, but I think it looks closer to an AU-50 and was thinking of sending it in for a regrade. Sounds like most of you agree...

Great finds. I would have guessed AU55 on the second. It looks like a great upgrade candidate.

I don't know about the grades, but I would say the first seems to have been cleaned, (whizzed or whatever)

The second looks nice, but not great.

Sorry I missed the GTG...

I would have also been concerned about #1 being cleaned. The old branch mint gold coins get some leeway that an IKE or Frankie would not.

The 47-C $5, on the other hand, looks REALLY nice. I would have been in the 53 range with my guess. If the coin is original, and you paid XF-45 money for it, I think you got a great deal.

That one from Pinnacle looks really nice. Looks like it has better central definition than mine does.

With the market what it's been lately, it's hard to say what "XF-45 money" is for this coin anymore.
