Grades from across the street with some Papa Tony's Franklins

I bought some Papa Tony's coins last month and 2 out of 3 met or exceeded his grade the other was 2 points off. The pre 1955 stuff I sent to PCGS economy. I bought some FS war nickels from him as well, and they had great strikes, but were not FS.

I submitted this to NGC on 4/5 while a modern submission to PCGS from 3/1 is still pending.

I got one last 1999-P SBA $1 PF70 UCAM, since they are now sold out at the Mint.

I called them about the PF70 CAM, asking if that was a mistake and if the could check it before it shipped, but the customer service rep didn't even look up the order and said "NO, they would not have made that mistake."

I bought some FS war nickels from him as well, and they had great strikes, but were not FS.

i've always thought of this as an anachronism of sorts. how can a Jefferson Nickel have a great strike and not have Full Steps, which is a strike indicator?? i think a coin can have Full Steps and a weak strike or a great strike, but if it doesn't have Full Steps, especially on the Silver Jefferson's, it's a weakly struck coin.

aside from that, there was somediscussion a few weeks ago about "the papa" and the general consensus was that he graded fairly. i guess your results tend to bear that out. thanks for sharing them.

Under 5x magnification the steps were all sharp, but each had a small ding going across the steps breaking them up.

I bought most of my war nickels from him and never a complaint. Thanks for posting your results.

From everything I have read about "Papa Tony", he seems to grade pretty decent. I have bought a couple of coins from him in the past and was pleased. Congrats on the grades! I have never submitted a coin to any grading service as of yet but someday I may get the nerve up to do so.
