1972-D Doubled Motto Washington Quarter. Found in Change 2 weeks ago.

I found this coin in my pocket change about 2 weeks ago. Is is a special variety? It is pretty heavily doubled.

    Hard to see but it looks like machine doubling.

    CONECA doesn't have a DDO for the 72-D.

    That is a very strong example of machine or strike doubling. It is not a doubled die, rather it is a form of damage imparted by the dies at the time of striking. There are folks who collect these, but don't expect it to have anything close to the value of a doubled die. Sorry...
