Other than PCGS & NCG

Other than PCGS & NCG, who have the best reputation (according to my research). What other coin grading companies have similar reputations? have the best reputation, (according to my research)

What other coin grading companies have similar reputations?

Or is it all objective in opinion?

Thanks all,

ANACS is also very good. Especially with attributions.

ANACS is great on Morgan dollar attributions, but not trustworthy on grading in my opinion.
    When in doubt, don't.

Hit and miss, if you know your coins you can find deals (even undergraded) but you have to know what your doing/looking at.

ICG is particularly strong with ancient coins.

    I would stick with PCGS.

  • In your honest opinion,

would I be better off keeping an NTC holder for an 1874 $1 MS62, or to send in for a crossover to PCGS?

Knowing NTC, it probably wouldn't cross, but to be honest with you, I would prefer an AU coin in a PCGS holder than anything in NTC.

NTC is one of the least respected TPG's. Understand that this is just my opinion.

to be blunt, none of the plastic co's really has a reputation that stands out. it's more a question of the lesser of mutliple evils.

You like them beause they grade rejects....image
  • I was surprised to read in the Greysheet that ICG coins realize almost the same value as NGC and PCGS coins. This surprised me because the modern proofs I see seem to be graded more optimistically than PCGS. I have an ancient gold coin graded by ICG in my personal collection and think it is just fine. Perhaps classic coins in ICG holders do well?

Thanks for the link to one of my auctions! I don't often seem to be the source of much controversy, and hope I still am not. Of those 3 proof Lincolns I think the '59 is closest to what PCGS might grade that coin. The '63 is close too IMO. I'm not so sure about the toning on the reverse of the '64.

I returned a proof Lincoln to PCGS that was severly overgraded and they made me whole on the deal. I've never even looked into ICG to see if they have a guarantee.

ANACS provides a needed service by net grading problem coins. As mentioned above they also do well with attributions.

My very limited experience with ICG - only have one of their coins - is such that I can't make any commentary ...

However, I have used ANACS numerous times, and they are fair/ strict, and their grades hold up on any cross overs with NGC & PCGS.

The only draw back I find in ANACS is that the size of their holders bucks the "trend" of size that the other grading companies use.

Personnally, I prefer the size of the ANACS holders, but its an immpossibility for the other companies change the size of their holders.

If the other companies were to change to the size of the ANACS holders, how'd we ever get those $50.00 PAN/PACS holdered ???????????????????????????

Go ANACS for foreign stuff. Other than that stick to the big 2.

I don't like ICG in my opinion. To new of a company and always see them on Coin Vault with those scammers advertising that ICG is number 1. Not in my opinion. I'm just sickened by all the harassment ANACS gets, I just got my coin graded by them, a gold one, and was hoping they'd be pretty good. I don't know if the grade is good or not, as it is a problem coin. But there's nothing I can do to change someones opinion..

  • The ANACS attrib. on Morgans is cool ~

I have no use for any other tpg other than PCGS, NGC, and ANACS.

Well Carl, you should have taken the time to investigate ICG's grade guarantee. I utilized it one time and they executed to my complete satisfaction. And I didn't have to wait 6 months. Here is a link to ICG's grade guarantee:

No problem! Glad to do it. Since there is no disclaimer in the auction description, I assume you find the ICG coins you are auctioning to be ACCURATELY graded.

<< <i>I was surprised to read in the Greysheet that ICG coins realize almost the same value as NGC and PCGS coins. >>

Don't worry about it Carl. You have lots of company. Plenty of other members here have failed to properly research the subject.

Do not buy SEGS coins. Even ANR won't accept them in auction.
