    There was a question again about the short set in the Q&A from Dennis88 last week. The response did not sound like there would be a short set anytime soon.

    What would a Lincoln short set consist of? What years? There already seem to be a variety of sets that don't encompass the entire series.

    Lincoln Short set is 34-58 and has been "in the queue until other regular sets are finished" for a few years now. Funny, other short sets keep popping up.

    PCGS probably figures the Lincoln series doesn't need any more help from the registry marketing machine at this time...so they are focusing their attention on areas that are less than "Quadruple Nuclear Mutant Habanero" hot.

    Okay, good. The reason I asked is because I got the distinct impression from Hall's latest answer that there has been no strong consensus from Lincoln collectors as to exactly what would comprise a short set. Reading through all the discussion about the issue leaves me with the same impression.

    When we Kennedy collectors asked for short sets, we got them in about one month. But, we all agreed exactly what should comprise the sets, and presented a point-by-point argument as to why it made sense. I then bugged David Hall with the argument, and we got it.

    I've seen a half dozen different people asking Hall about a Lincoln short set, but have seen no cohesive, comprehensive argument for exactly why, and precisely what years.

    I think if you guys pick one person to go after it, and stick to only the years 1934-1958, present a point-by-point analysis and list of all the reasons it makes sense, you might have a better chance of accomplishing the mission.

    I have never seen anything other than the 34-58 proposed as the short set. I think there is very strong consensus as to what the se should be comprised of, at least from what I have seen.

    That may very well be so, but it's obvious that it has not been effectively communicated to the one who makes the decision about it. A cohesive, united front with a detailed analysis of the benefit both to collectors and to PCGS needs to be presented by one person, and one person only. Then that representative needs to keep hammering away until the mission is accomplished.

    Already doing that. But, I would also like to see the Lincoln people get their short set. Why? Because you don't want one.

    sonof*gunk, I know you've put out excel worksheets for Lincoln registries. Couldn't you just do one for 1934 thru 1958? The players who enjoy the competition could see where they stand assuming they have entered their coins into the 1909-1958 registry. This seems like a good short term solution until PCGS gets around to adding it to their system. Steveimage

    If the "tools" are there to see who's got the best short set, and the ability to enter the coins in the regular registry is also there, then what is the REAL reason that this is a top priority with a few of my fellow Lincoln collectors? I, personally would like to have a 1909 to date Lincoln PROOF registry, but I wouldn't go bonkers to get it. Steveimage

    I would assume that the short set may have its own weights that need to be calculated - a 1939-P in MS67RD should not have the same weight as a 54-P in 67RD.

    I do see your point. I'm sure David will do it shortly. There are enough Lincoln registry people around. Problem now is probably HE is the only one who will do the weighting and he has lots on his plate. Steveimage

    Make it easier. Develop suggested weighting for the set as part of the detailed argument in favor of adding it. The more excuses you eliminate, the better the odds.
