I have a small collection of coins from 1967. If I see a coin from that year, I usually hold on to it.

Yep, did my birth year. Got my 'last' coin for the set last year. It was St. Thom & Prince 2 1/2 Escudo. Took me over 25 years. (Pre internet, you know)
The most money I made are on coins I haven't sold.

I do have a Krause, but only look things up as I come across them. I do have others from 1967, they just are not properly cataloged or organized yet.

I know several people who collect the entire world for their birth year. A dealer friend, Tom Rose, has many people on his mailing list who collect that way.
Do you collect 1 from each country for that year or do you try to collect every coin from every country for that year?!?!?!
Cecil Total Copper Nutcase - African, British Ships, Channel Islands!!! 'Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup'
The nice thing about these types of collections is that you can set the limits up anyway you want.
As for me, I chose to do just one of each denomination per country. Take Germany for example. In the year I collected, there were 7 mints operating. I was satisfied with just one of each type.

I collect/hoard whhatever I come across. I believe I even have duplicates of some things. I just find it hard to part with anything from my birthyear. Kind of like I may be jinxing myself by doing that.

There are a lot of people who collect single dates of world coins and some expand to tokens, medals or just about anything from that year.
Most of the dates from the late '60's to early '70's contain a lot of tough to find coins that are very inexpensive. Some are tough only in unc, though.
I started off thinking I would do my 'coin per country' of only my birth year (I won't mention what that is ). But then I got too distracted by all the other cool coins, so then it was 'a coin per country from every country that was in existence for the year of my birth'. I haven't made that list yet, and I know I have a few coins that don't quite fall in that category either.
I'm trying to collect at least one coin from each European country in existence from 1789-1815. After that I'm trying to collect all types for those countries. Then all years, then all mints... well, you get the general idea...
I figure at my current rate I'll hit basic closure on the whole thing about 150 years after a reasonable lifespan has already expired!
Most people that I know who are doing the birthyear sets are doing all denominations and mints from all the countries. Literally an example of all coins issued that year.
Saw your 1902 set web link. Congrats! Very nice and a supurb accomplishment. I saw a similar set years ago in a capital plastic holder, minus the coronation medals. I don't remember but I believe it was a complete proof set.
