Wheat collecters sign in......

Hello everyone

If you are seriously collecting wheat lincoln cents please sign in this thread. My purpose is to have a list with all the members who collect this fascinating series. Everyone will be able to send questions to others, and teaching eachother.

Myself, I've been collecting wheat Lincoln cents since December last year. Most of the coins in my set (6 in total) were gifts from other members. In June, I will be able to buy an 1909 VDB very cheap, and after that I will buy for one year only coins from the 50's in ms66rd.

Here is a link to my set.

My icon coin is a 1915 Matte proof Lincoln wheatie.

  • I collected Lincolns 1909 to date. With the exception of the error coins (22 Plain and 55 DDO) the wheat cent set is complete. No proofs, just circulation strikes.

I like early lincolns (like before 1920), but I've fallen off the wagon a bit. I have been seduced by proof IHC's. Maybe matte proof lincolns will bring me back.

I collect everything so you might as well put my name down.

I don't have many Lincolns, but the ones I do have sure are purdy.

    We ARE watching you.

  • You can put me down as a Lincoln wheat collector. Although I don't post much, I read and learn quite a bit here. I've bought some lincolns from various members and have been happy with all transactions so far. Jacktheknife sent me a 1918 and a 1920 both in 64 RD that look much nicer, and haletj sent me a 19-D that is a pleasing 63 RD.

    Thanks!!

Well Hey, Count me in.... I started in 1964, dropped it for many years and am back with a vegence. I have the complete series in three Capital Boards. Board #3 is from 1975 to date. All coins are either Proof are came out of Mint sets. Board # 2 is 1941 - 1974 has all proofs and all MS65 RED or better. Board # 1 is G- Unc. It becomes more unc around 1930. But I decided two years ago to collect a slab set for 1909- 1940 with 41- 30 being MS 66 or better, and the rest, MS63 R&B or better. I need 6 to finsih and about 6 to upgrade before its done.

I may or may not have a few of those tucked away or lost or whatever. image

I've also sold coins (some from my three different attempts at completing the set) to a lot of registry owners, board members, and dealers in the past. Work has kept me too busy to do much lately, but I'm sure I'll be buying, selling (through my work), and collecting again in the future.

I'm also working on a Memorial variety set that I'm very pleased with so far, but I'm still a long way from done with it.

Guilty as charges, most of my slabs are Lincolns. I have three sets running right now. 1909-1958, 1959-Present, and the latest Proof set.

I'm up and down on these. I spent a year away from them and alot of them went down in grade image I thought the slabs were air tight...I guess I'm wrong. So alot of the MS67RD's are now MS64RD/BR image

I've decided to move onto a Type set but havn't really moved forward yet. I think I'll always be a Lincoln man though.

I have always loved the series and will always collect Lincoln's. I just put together a nice vf set for my 11 year old missing the 4 or 5 keys. We sorted thru thousands of coins together till we were seeing triple, But boy oh boy- was that fun.
Some coins are just plain "Interesting"
  • I've got me a lincoln date set that I'm working on, all circulated. I'd love to own a slabed MS RD 1909 VDB wheatie. Maybe I'll start a Slabed type set when I'm done with High School and College.

  • I'm saving all early Lincolns in 66 red. I'm probably the only idiot who thinks there will be a market for Memorials in 2008 and am collecting a bag set. Already have 32 different bags. I'd like to see someone move the safe. Steve
  • I collect wheaties, but am missing 1909 S VDB & 1914 D. Will be attending ANA show in Portland this month and I may find a good speciman of both.

  • I wouldn't say that it's a focus of my collecting, but I have always had an interest in and collected wheat cents. For the longest time, all I had were cruddy, brown, worn out wheats. I remember the first time that I saw nice red uncirculated ones, and I was awed. I thought it was the coolest thing!

So far we have around 28 wheat collecters signed in. There must be more out there.....

For the ones who already signed in, what are your goals for this year??

    Mine:

-To have a PCGS 1909 VDB in ms66rd (wich I will receive in June)
-To be somewhat more complete with my set....
-To have at least one ms67rd wheat (pcgs offcourse).

Hi everyone! I need 5 better dates to complete my set 1909-2004 in CH BU, 11-s,13-s,14-s,18-d,19-d. I generally grade my coins with three grades, no star, one star, two star. Regardless of its actual grade, no star means it's not nice or too low of a grade, * is it is a nice coin that I can live with, and ** means its a fabulous coin I'll never have to upgrade! I was trying to get all the dates, but my new goals for the year is to try to just buy ** coins, and hopefully add just a couple of more ** early S's. Actually that has been near impossible lately, every one I get I end up calling it * or * and a half. Basically I need those 5 dates, and have about 5-7 more dates I don't yet have a * coin of (some tough ones, 20-s,23-s,24-d!), and still only have half the set or so in ** coins (but I do have 09-s vdb,14-d,17-s,19-s,26-s! My fab five!).

This is my registy set (with some new pictures!), but I'm collecting any type of holder (eventually they all will be in Whitman plastic holders, with 20 per page in Eagle holder pages in a three ring binder!), and here are some of my dupicates for sale!
  • Coppercoins, 1300 in your collection??? Sorry to say, but, THAT in itself is a hoard. I probably have about 60-70 PCGS and NGC 66's. All from 1909 to 1939. Mostly earllier. My best is a NGC 66 1910s red and a stunning 1916 PCGS 66 red. I'm looking to hoard PCGS 66 reds from 1935 thru 1942. When I get them all, I'm sure the market will crash. JMHO. Steve

Like I said, I need those 6 to finish. Am I the only one who thinks in 2009 that the Cent will be either discountinued or changed and that when the demand/popularity and thus price of Lincolns goes way up, I won't be "wishing" I had finished the collection??????

I collect them too but mostly just the key dates. I just need the 1955 double die to complete the keys. Here is one I bought last year. It is a 1936 Satin proof PF64 RB that is almost all red. Satin proofs are neat! image

  • Working on two sets. one is complete from 1934 up
I have done so much with so little for so long that I can now do anything with nothing for ever
  • I collect certified and raw Lincolns. I'll not put my sets on the registry until they are 50% or more complete. They are getting close. The raw side is getting more attention and I've been selling and trading Lincolns to complete that labor. OBW rolls from 1934 and up plus circulated rolls for everything else. I'm down to the last 3 circulated rolls and need about a dozen OBW rolls. I can always dream about that full roll of 1909-S VDB's.
