Care To Grade And Attribute This Flowing Hair Half? Slab Grade Posted

Found it at the first table at my local coin club show today. My local dealer just happened to get this in. I asked him to pull it back for an hour, returned in 15 minutes and grabbed it. These are tough to find these days. Anyway if you are so inclined go ahead and grade it. I have attributed it from my Overton book but give that a shot as well.

A few diagnostics you probably can't see are.... Obverse, rough die-break from star 1-3. Die crack bottom of star one goes along left side.

Reverse.... die-defect right side of "OF" goes up by rim. Fine die- crack joins MERICA.
There appears to be some kind of raised area on the rim up top of "E" on reverse as well as some kind of cud between the "I" and the "C" on reverse in America that you can see in my scan I believe.

I'd grade it F-15. No idea on the attribution.

Hey, you got one! Nice coin, looks like an O-115 from here, easy VG10 and probably Fine 12.

Awesome surfaces, i like yours a lot better than the cleaned, damaged one Overton shows.

But save the stories, just tell us how much!

Looks like a nice original 115 in VG-10.

This is one of the better (but unheralded) 1795 varieties - a true R5.

VG/10 If there's more feather detail on the Eagle than shows in the image it will grade fine/12 at a service.

F12 on a bad day, otherwise, FN15. The rim bruise on the reverse, @3:00, is slightly troublesome, but not enough to warrant a shift in grade (or, appeal).

On second thought, I also think this one has a chance at 15, definitely a choice 12+ and a good argument to have grades such as Fine-13.5

For those who said this was a O-115 you are correct. Overton lists this as a R-5 (Rare) 31-80 specimens for this variety. I find it amazing to be able to find a coin going on 210 years old with IMO original (unmolested) surfaces and problem free. Now it's on to a flowing Hair dollar for me. Thanks for taking a look and for the kind words. I feel I was fortunate to run into this coin and actually got a great deal on it as far as price. Must be my charming personality.

pcgs nailed that 1 perfectly. textbook vg-10, your coin could be the poster coin for the grade.

This is a great FH half that is choice for the grade. I will have to start going to those local shows of yours! As a bonus, O.115 is a difficult R.5 that has infrequent auction appearances. Your patience paid off with a nice, original coin.
