I'm curious, is this mark I have outlined with the red circle on the holder or on the coin?

The mark you refer to could be in the holder or the coin. If on the coin, and it's just the slightest of light scratches, even if it goes through the bell lines, they will still designate the coin FBL as long as in the grader's eyes it does not interfere with the look of the bell lines

    Gorgeous coin !! Looks more like a MS66 than a MS65. imo

Looks like a solid 65. The FBL looks weak......Can you do close ups?

I don't know, if that mark is on the coin it is in a very prominent position. The obverse of this coin is great, and overall a nice coin, but it was always my understanding that any marks across the bell lines would not get the FBL designation.

Jim - sure looks 66 to me! That 65 blows away pcgs 65's I own and have seen - unless I'm missing something from the pics.

Hot Stuff, the mark you circled is on the upper set of Lines, PCGs is only concerned with the Lower set....

They are? Then the standards have changed since I put together my set ten years ago. It used to be that any marks across either the lower or upper bell lines would disqualify the coin being designated FBL. In any event, this is good to know if I decide to try to upgrade my set.

NGC looks at both sets, PCGs only looks at the lower....

I have found that in most cases if the Lower lines are there which is the highest struck point, the Tops are there also...

This isn't always the case, but is generally true in the thousands of PCGs specimens I have owned, handled and seen...

Now just because NGC has a stricker criteria, they have still slab'd many coins that woudln't go FBL at PCGs.....

so with either service, a careful inspection of the coin is essential......

Sometimes a light (and I mean one where you have to turn the coin to see it) scratch can be magnified ten fold when you take a picture of a coin. If they gave this 52S an FBL designation, the scratch must by definition be inconsequential - unless of course someone screwed up.
