Question about ICG grading
Okay, if an ICG slabs says PR69DCAM how close to a PCGS or NGC 69DCAM would it be grade wise?
Thanks,
Mike

And many more overgraded, over-designated turds can be found than that. Buying third-tier slabs is fine if one has the opportunity to evaluate the coin in-hand prior to plunking down the money. It's dangerous otherwise.

A few months ago, I got to look at a whole bunch of ICG Buffs and Jeffs graded MS66-67. Although they were certainly nice coins, in my opinion they were all graded an average of two points over what PCGS on NGC would give them. I don't know if this overgrading runs across the board. From my random observations over the past several years, I would say that they consistently fall on the "optimistic" side of a coin's grade.
There was a lesser amount of proof Ikes in this bunch, maybe like 20-25 of them. All were 69DCAM except for a few 68DCAMs. I didn't think they were all up to PCGS or NGC standards. I don't think they were off by quite as much as the nickels were, on average, though. And a few did seem to be graded properly (i.e., by PCGS or NGC standards).

A guy last year purchased an ICG MS67RD 1910-S Lincoln cent sent it to PCGS and from I can gather will easily make $30K on the deal. Don't let lack of greed stand in your way. If the coin was a true 69 DCAM what would the holder say? 69DCAM maybe?

Yes, you can find many good ones. But you are going to have to crack them out and take your chances with one of the major services. Someone like Lucy can probably do very well at this since she has a specialty she knows well. The beginning collector might not do very well, however, as they will not have the eye for what the services like.

I don't pass it up. Nor do I pass up looking at anything and everything in every conceivable slab. Which is all fine and dandy for those of us who have access to shows. Many don't, and have to rely on sight-unseen purchases. Not a good idea with high-grade modern proofs in ICG slabs.

Not true. I frequently buy them raw.
