CU Forum Members in the Houston Area: Let's get organized for this January's MONEY Show of the SW at Greenspoint Mall so that we can meet one another in person.

I plan on attending alot of the excellent continuing education sessions that Mike Fuljenz and Mike Faraone (ANACS) will be offering. That meeting room is a great place to meet others bacsue it is relatively small and manageable. The bourse floor is very spread out and a tough place to meet folks unless you pick a time/place.

This will be my first Money Show at that location, missed it there last year. I know where Greenspoint mall is but
not the exact place of the show.Shouldnt be too difficult to find I,m sure.
Stuart- I,m interested in the continuing education sessions. Do you have more details on this as to times
and who is excepted. Anyone that wants to show up? Is there a fee? Would love to check that out.

Cam40: JBSteven (a member fo this forum) was kind enough to introduce me to the MONEY Show coordinator Carl Schwenker at this weekend's Pasadena Coin Club Show. Carl is the proper contact regarding the Bourse Floor. Ralph Ross would be the best source of information about the continuing education session topics.

However, from my previous attendance I can tell you that there's no fee involved -- the sessions are open to all and are complimentary.

In all honestly. I think I spent at least as much time getting educated in these sessions at last year's MONEY show, as the time that I spent shopping the floor. It's for this reason that I attend both on Saturday and Sunday for this show (and only 1 day for other shows).

Now's the time for us to start preparing for this upcoming big regional show. Carl told me that he's working hard to continue growing the show to make it an important national show like it used to be years ago.

Louis: Since I do not know most of the CU Forum members by sight (only cyber space) I am not planning to coordinate a get together.

I wanted to start the ball rolling here, but I'll ask for a more senior member (perhaps a dealer with a table and a commercial upside) to take charge here and organize something.

I'll be pleased to meet you all during the continuing educational sessions in the meeting room. Let's all wear some type of forum pin that we could perhaps pick up at a forum member/dealer's table when we arrive. Maybe even a toned coin specialist dealer who handed out some really nice PCGS Blue Slab Boxes this wekeend (not so subtle hint to JBS)...

This is a good way to get us all on the same page, and to drive show attendance -- which Carl Schwenker is trying to do.

just got back from the RED HOT Pasadena show! I could barely keep room infront of my table this weekend from all the people looking at the coins.

I would be happy to be the Grand Poobah at the Money show for the forum members. Everybody does seem to know me (and be able to spot me in the crowd) so just stop by my table and I will hand out the forum pins.

SM1, keep me posted on the pins.

I will give a in depth report of the RED HOT Padadena show a little later.

Jason: Thanks very much for agreeing to be "volunteered" to be the CU Forum "Grand Poobah" for the upcoming MONEY Show.

I'm real interested to get your show report on how the latter portion of the Pasadena, TX show went -- after DizzleCC and I left at about 2:30pm on Saturday.

I am really pleased with both the coins that I was able to sell to dealers, and some really nice (tough) coins that I was able to purchase at the show. Especially the raw 1890 MS-63/64 PL/DMPL that I picked up for MS-60 money.

Jason is a good pick for Grand Poobah, he's easy to spot. Just look for the mullet and the toners.

I too am looking forward to his report on the Pasadena show. For me it was an enjoyable show.

Oh, yeah. It was about 3 PM Saturday that the Sweedish bikini team showed up and began handing out the new $50 dollar bills free to everyone. Guess you shoulda stayed a little longer.

I think this is a good idea. Count me in. After meeting the organizer of the Money show I was a little fired up. It should easily be the biggest and best show to hit Houston in awhile.

Numismatic News 1/6/04 on page 30 states the show is moved over to the Greenspoint Showplace? at the opposire end of the mall from the Expo center? have the times changed too?

The Money Show of the Southwest -- January 23-25, 2004 at the "Show Place" in Greenspoint Mall. Note that this show used to be at the Expo Center on the other side of the mall.

DizzleCC and I are looking forward to meeting alot of our fellow C.U. Coin Forum Members at the upcoming MONEY Show of the SW -- Houston -- Jan 23-25, 2004.

I am planning to be there on both Saturday and Sunday, and am looking forward to participating in many of the continuing education sessions that are planned.

In past recent shows I have met alot of valuable new contacts during these sessions and have also learned quite alot by participating in them.

I am looking forward to seeing many of you there -- I'll be recognizable wearing CU pin and probably waiting in line for Mike Faraone at the ANACS table to get some grading advice on some of my scarcer and better raw coins.

I've already got my plans set for 3 of the Educational Sessions that will be offered at the show on Saturday the 24th:

That second session on Counterfeit coins sounds awesome! I had dinner with Mike Farone after the TNA show last May and he is a straight-up guy. What time is this session? Do I need to preregister? Is there a fee? Any other info will be helpful.

David Poole (dpoole) and I will be driving up from Austin in the morning but will be at the show from open 10am to close 6pm.

One of you mugs say hello to Carl for me. We were partners in the ANA grading class a couple years ago. He's a great guy and his wife Pat is a sweetheart too. In the class, he bailed me out on the Morgans and I carried him on.. um.. there had to be something I could grade better... oh, forget it.
