First photo of the 2004 Silver Eagle...

image

Nice early strikes as usual with good luster and no milky spots. Some minor die erosion on the sun which appears as a small bump or shiny spot. Most recent ASE's (2001-2004) have this exact same problem. I have complained to the US Mint with no reply. I believe all the master hubs have this minor flaw. Interestingly, this does not occur on proof ASE's or most early date issues.

WOW, that looks like a solid MS69+ if I've ever seen one.

It's really nice looking. Too bad it's not a real coin.

Interesting. Do they just keep duplicating the old Master dies ?
Would it cut that deeply into their profits to re-engrave the dies
instead of just changing the date ?

I bought a few 2004 SAEs at the Fun show. The seller was getting mad at me because I kept on wanting to get another coin rather the one she gavce me. Bag marks, scratches, etc. The two I ended up with look as good as the photo.

I just got one in the mail yesterday that I bought off ebay and it looks every bit as good as those pics.
