Copper Wash Ike Pictures Cool Error!!!

Just back from the slab factory. Like to know what this might be worth?

Poor Obverse scan. Likes like something extra on the scanner.

Coin is graded correctly as MS64.

  • That's pretty neat. Could you clarify what exactly causes this? If never been completely clear on this.

    Pipedream,

I'm not sure? I assume (but totally an assumption) that the outer layer was somehow acid washed away, leaving only the innner copper layer. There is no nickel layer on the reverse at all. There is some on the obverse, but not much.

Like to get some other opinions!

I have a quarter that is a copper wash, but it's way after the zinc cent started. For that year I have no idea.

To each his own...but , to me, it's just an ugly, discolored coin. I wouldn't want it in my collection.

    nankraut,

Appreciate your opinion. The coin is very lusterous in person, and looks like a giant Lincoln Cent.

Ikes seem to be either a love or hate realtionship.

Find youself a nice top end one, and you jsut might come to like them!

Neat Ike! Does it weigh any less than a regular Ike? Where did you find it?

A copper wash is a film of copper adhering to the surface as a result of a dip in solution containing copper. It is a form of plating. If memory serves, it might be part of the annealing process of the blank. Cool coin.

As far as I know the coin weighs the same.

Bought the coin a few years ago from a MD dealer.

Thought I'd send it in for grading!
