Cotton gloves would be the least damaging but there is the problem of grip and I don't like dropping coins.
Latex is the best for grip but they often come dusted with talc for ease of fit. I don't know what talc does to a coin. Also latex doesn't breathe so hands tend to sweat.
Vinyl gloves tend to lack grip . Also I'm not sure if the chemical composition may be similar to PVC, a known coin contaminant.
Personally, I wash and dry my hands carefully and handle the coins lightly by the rim. I get a better feel for the coin and am less likely to drop it.
If you're handling coins for a short period of time I believe just washed hands (no gloves) are best. There is a slight likelihood a coin will slip and drop wearing cotton gloves. All it takes is once. Washed hands provide equal protection when handling coins carefully (by the edge, of course).
I remember somewhere in these forums it was mentioned that silver has some sort of reaction when it comes in contact with silver. I think it was said that it leaves a black spot or something.

Latex and vinyl gloves belong in the realm of proctologists and dentists, not numismatists.

Vinyl is PVC.
