mintage of a GB 1958 1/2d in Proof. I came up empty. Any suggestions?

Mintage unknown - my guess is 3 to 10 pieces likely extant.

There is no mintage data in Coincraft or the old Bessett guide I use when all else fails.

1958 PROOF HALFPENNY. FREEMAN 482 R19.

Rarity 19 .... Freeman estimates 5 or less exist.

His reliability is poor but most figures have some basis to them. The problem I had when trying to hit the "buy" button was that out of the "five" extant, NEN had two in stock.

My guess is that around 10-15 exist but I would quote the R19 as universal law if selling.

Freeman

The Bronze Coinage of Great Britain by Michael J. Freeman. This is THE reference for bronze coinage varieties at the moment. The 1985 second edition must be obtained. Because of this book you can virtually ignore Peck from 1860 to date.

Just about every British dealer worth his salt refers to it. See Gouby, Cooke etc. The ones who don't are worth accosting at coin fairs because they nearly always have bargains available.

There are other references (Gouby) but they are more specialised so this is the book that everyone referse to.
