How common are PL Eagles?

islemanguislemangu Posts: 1,463 ✭✭✭✭
I can only dream of ever owning a proof classic gold coin so when I came across this PL eagle I bought it thinking this is the closest I could ever afford. Later on I tried looking the issue up in my older population reports and couldn't find any listings on PLs. It looks like a newer NGC slab so I guess NGC recently started with the PL designation on eagles? If any gold person has a current pop report that could share info please pm or post appreciatedimage

That's a nice coin! I have a couple of these prooflike $10 libs graded by NGC 61-62 although they don't say it on the holder. I think the PL desination was started about a year ago and from what I can see they are pretty spotty on handing out this desination. The PL's are not listed seperately in the population report but their are 5,824 graded 61 with about 9,000 grading better. Many people stay away from these because they show every little mark on the coin. I remember in a B&M auction earlier this year they had many PL's listed in the common dates and grades- might be interesting for you to look at the on-line auction catalogs of B&M sales I think it was the big one in the summer? mike image

they are not rare, though obviously not as common as frosty coins.
