A Christmas Message

A friend of mine sent me this, which I found too good not to share:

We can either run from our past or learn from it but we’re never given the chance to return to it. Yet, every year around this time I hear my past calling. Like a beacon guiding a ship to the refuge of safe harbor my roots beckon me and I take comfort in their embrace. Not because I mourn for what never was but rather because I’ve found that by looking backwards it helps me to focus on the brightness of a new page where everything yet can happen.

What lies behind us and what lies before us is insignificant compared to what lies within us. We must remember that we have been put here for greater things, not just to be a number on some list or a diploma on the wall but to radiate God’s grace and make sure that all who come into contact with us will become better people for having crossed our path.

When the time comes when you believe everything is finished, that will be your beginning. Don’t just go through life—grow through life. If there is one universal truth it is that no matter what your present circumstances life goes on. When one door closes another always opens. Walk through those doors without regret, don’t look back in anger or forward with trepidation and remember that destiny is always a matter of choice, not chance.

As the seasons of your life grow shorter, remember that age is more a function of temperament and attitude than chronology. Time may put wrinkles on your brow but don’t allow it to put wrinkles on your heart—keep your spirit young. Kindness is the real gift that keeps on giving; the key to a healthy soul and represents our path to true salvation. Wherever there is another human being, there is an opportunity for kindness. It is the light that dissolves all walls and breaks down all barriers. And it is not necessarily about money or grandiose gestures but rather offering others whatever you can of encouragement, compassion, and understanding. Most of all it’s about love, the greatest gift of all.

May God surround you and your loved ones with His grace and blessings throughout the coming year.
"I want to die peacefully in my sleep like my Grandfather did, as opposed to screaming in terror like his passengers."
