green coated 57 frankie in a PROOF set.

Is this weird or what? I just noticed that the obverse of this coin is turning green with what looks like pond scum. It is definitely on the coin and not on the cellophane envelope.

Edited to change the title from MINT to PROOF thanks to RUSS.

Strange, that looks like a proof to me. image

Probably a tiny hole somewhere and something leached in over the years. Or, could have been mishandling at the mint.

Cool, "Free Frankie" could be a new movie, you could show pictures of it jumping in the air into a tub of Jewellusterimage-------------------------------BigE

What kind of bath? Should I get some acetone and give him a quick dip? I have never dipped a coin before. image

I like any coin I can buy cheap and sell dear. That particular one is going to be a tidy profit.

I dunno if acetone would help you on that. Maybe, maybe not.

As BigE suggested, Jeweluster is probably just the thing. A quick dip and then a rinse in clean water. Leave the coin to dry on a folded paper towel, then flip it over so the other side can dry, too. If you must pat it dry with the paper towel to remove the water, OK, but don't rub it dry.
