Hey Franklin lovers, what's this REALLY worth?

Man, that's a big chunk of change. If it were in a PCGS holder, it would be pop top unique so, if that were the case, it probably would actually bring that much.

    [AA999] 1951-S NGC MS67*BL Franklin 50c

The beautifully written description, lauding the coin in all its series shaking beauty, leaves me with a desperate case of got-to-have-it ... and, check out the seller's other auctions if you have a spare $100,000 sitting around and are looking for some Frankies.

    RGL,

It's true, you'd think it could be hyped a tad more, eh?

    Nonetheless, a very pretty coin.

For that amount, I would appreciate a few adjectives ... image

do you feel the fingerprint affected the score?

I here NGC is tuffer on 'fbl' because they require the top as well

Its a lovely coin but.......NGC just market grades the hell outta alot of their stuff.

Their grading makes my stomach turn. Sorta like PCI, ACG, and NTC but those ARE the worst offenders.

I like this coin, great colors, Fairtraderz doesn't really capture the color on their coins very well, so this one I'm sure is even prettier in person..... If it is hit free and has strong luster, there is a good chance this one could cross.... But this is a pop 1 NGC coin is it not?
It is fine in the NGC holder......

so is this coin really worth 27k?????

    to the right person....

me, i'd rather spend the money on a 53s FBL coin and I'll have a good 13k or so left......

  • Heck, it is worth a big chunk of change in the NGC holder! As of the beginning of the month, PCGS has placed 64 Franklins in their MS-67 FBL holder, all dates included. NGC has placed only 8 coins in their 67 FBL holder. This one even has the star* and is a Pop.1 for the date. I agree with Lucy. I don't see anything on that coin to make me believe it is not correctly holdered. That much color in that date? Wow! I'm surprised he doesn't put the coin in the FUN Show auction.

Based on recent auctions, in a PCGS holder (i.e., if it crosses), it's priced right.

  • Nice colors, but the obverse looks pretty weak, even for a 51 s. For a 7 I would expect as sharp as they come. Plus, doesn't the obverse pic make it look scratched or brushed?

Not a very good picture...but I guess if it is graded by a reputable company, it dosen't matter.

Plus their ebay bill must be astonomical...

Thanks for the info. PCGS guide has the 66FBL somewhere around $3,500, so didn't know what to expect in the next step up.

...but the consensus seems to be that it could really be worth that much assuming it's a solid 67FBL.....wow.

    Can't deny the pretty colors.

Yeah, I think its a high price but I don't think its out of line for a pop 1 and a star coin.......

  • That coin was in the Heritage Baltimore sale and didn't sell. To me it looks like a premium 66FBL coin, but I don't think it's a 67, otherwise it'd be in a PCGS holder by now - and don't think the owners haven't tried to cross it. Like Lucy said - to the right person that wants it it may be worth the $27K, but the reality of it is that you can find a coin as appealing if not more so in a PCGS 66FBL holder.

Why gee Lucy, Merry Christmas to you too!!!

With a MS-67 FBL 8 times more difficult to find in an NGC holder, I would much rather own the coin in the NGC holder. NGC's much more stringent grading of FBL (all 7 bell lines) obviously makes these coins prettty scarce. That color in that date and the star* designation makes that coin very special.
