Whole Lotta Shakin Goin On

We just had a big quake in central Calif., a 6.5 near Hearst Castle, which shook us up good here in LA. Long, long, rolling action for a couple of minutes here in Century City. 4.7 aftershock a few minutes ago. This is big! Hope my coins are OK.

I felt it up in Palo Alto, but I wouldn't call it "big".

CNN is running film of downtown Paso Robles which got trashed in parts, buildings collapsed, roofs down, three dead. Aftershocks include a 4.7 or 9. It is on a previously unknown fault, running about 20 miles, running parallel to the San Andreas.

Lucky the central coast is so sparsely populated.

Didn't feel it up here in God's country (OR). You just don't appreciate the power involved with an earthquake until you've been in one.

I live in the most geologic-inactive area, and no natural diasters either - northern Minnesota.

Sure wish I would experience a hurricane, or good 'ol earthquake sometime. It would be very cool to see a volcano erupt!

Yes, but we do have 40-50 reported tornados a year. image
We are finite beings, limited in all our powers, and, hence, our conclusions are not only relative, but they should ever be held subject to correction. Positive assurance is unattainable. The dogmatist is the only one who claims to possess absolute certainty.
