My wife insisted I try to scan her new penny again, just to show the color and detail since the other scan was washed out. She grades it a ms 65-66, opinions please, and thanks for the comments.
My opinion is a 63RB. Awsome strike but it looks like it has two hits on the chin, and pehaps a tiny carbon spot under/on the nose and another between the N and T on the reverse. If the carbon is just shadows from the scan then I would say 64RB. If the carbon and the hit are just illusions from the scan then I would say 65RB
I hate trying to scan copper, they allways look darker then it they really are, however knowing this I still have to say RB as you can see the change in contrast too heavily on both sides (Feathers OBv) (All through the center reverse).
From the scans I could not guess if it was recolored. Scans suck for trying to capture the true color of a copper coin and its luster IMO.
I like it though, even if it was dipped, I would welcome it to my collection.
GOLDSAINT, sorry if my grade seems harsh but it is my honest opinion from the picture provided. If you think it will go MS66RED I think I would submit it as it's a $5,000 coin in that grade. mike
If I were looking to buy that coin from the scans, I would suspect that there is a 75% chance that it has been messed with and as far as a grade 63 or 64. I can't really tell the color from the scan but looks R/B. None of what I said would stop me from purchasing it as I collect these, but would make a difference on what I paid for it. Tell her its a nice cent and enjoy it.
The title of this thread has been bothering me all morning.
My ex-wife had an Indian head too, of course she was three-quarter Cherokee. She was considerably more attractive than this one also.
"Lenin is certainly right. There is no subtler or more severe means of overturning the existing basis of society(destroy capitalism) than to debauch the currency. The process engages all the hidden forces of economic law on the side of destruction, and it does it in a manner which not one man in a million is able to diagnose." It looks a little dull. Is that just The photo? It seems nice and clean, none of those cruddy black spots. I give it a B+
<< <i>Unc. details- cleaned and retoned but it is still a nice looking coin. mike >>
Okay that was my original answer as well, but when I saw jonesy's post, I edited mine since I thought I was wrong.
But I do think it has been cleaned, but has nice UNC details. But I know nothing about copper!

My flat bed scanner makes some of my blazers look just like your indian head cent so I'd bet it's original.
Regarding the grade, I'd say MS65RD.

Not sure on color designation. Either RD or RB.
