Any volume of the Cherrypicker's Guide has a preface on machine doubling with excellent photos. I would highly recommend it.

Here are a couple although not as good as I would like. The coin is a nice Rd example of machine doubling. I wish it were THAT 69 DDO, but it is not.

Here is some nice machine doubling on a proof Indiana quarter. I love doubling on a nice proof coin.

  • JRocco, nice Proof State Quarter you have there...does that doubling occur all the way around the quarter...what do you think it is?

Yes it does. It is a nice example of machine doubling. Clear flat shelves from die bounce. These scans don't capture enough clarity to really see that. I hate shooting thru plastic.

Machine doubling is flat and shelf like, as opposed to true die doubling which shows split serif separation.(in most cases)
