To Morgan Collectors...

What grade do you collect? Do you collect one grade or several grades depending on price? What is the most popular grade collected? I do ms64, 65 and 66 but there are lots of coins I can't afford.

I currently have a set of 1878 Morgans (all mintmarks & major varieties) in MS64 & up.

I TRY to curtail my spending habits when it comes to Morgans and keep it at 63, 64 and 65; moreover, the CCs in these grades are the only Morgans I collect...Welcome to the forum!...

I collect them in all grades.I have tubes of well circulated morgans and peace dollars that are from slot machines I play when we go to Reno.My highest graded stuff would be 65, but for the most part I am in the 62-64 range on the affordables.

Commons in 64-66 . . . better dates in 61-64 . . .keys in XF-AU. Just a matter of cost, like most people. I tend to look at eye appeal in the commons and originality in the keys.

Mint State. I just buy whatever strikes my interest, mostly strangly toned ones or white ones with nice frost or a clean dmpl in grades from 63-66. I do have a handful of 62's and don't have anything against the lower MS grades but you rarely see a 61 or 62 and the 60's are mostly nasty. My 93-S is circ.

I collect everything. Some of my favorites are an AG2 1796 cent, a G4 1877 cent, VF30 1917 type1 SLQ, a F15 1901O Barber quarter and a PR70 Maine State quarter.

I collect nice looking coins, mostly in the 64-65 range. Right now I only have one CC coin, an 1883CC in MS64PL!! Love them Shiny Morgies!!!!

Good question. I collect exactly MS64 on all of the "common" dates. By "common", I mean all dates that have a PCGS registry set weighting of 1 or 2. The reason is because this is where the price is still reasonable. See my PCGS registry set via the link below. I am currently STILL stuck at the 90% completion mark, mainly because I was SNIPED out of several Morgans on eBay that I wanted for my set.

I collect all the way down to AG03 on the two key dates, i.e., 1893-S and 1889-CC. I try to get the best grade I can afford in between the two extremes. I think for the more common dates, according to the population report, MS64 is the most popular grade.

I have about 10 commons in MS 66 lots of them in 64 and 65, maybe a half dozen in 63 a few in 62 a couple 60 or 61 a couple in 58 and a fair number in AU50 to 55 one in ef40 and a 93-S in vf35. At the current time I have finished a basic set. I plan to get all but the 93-S in at least AU50.

I'm across the board...my 93-S is a pleasing F-12, my 89-CC a VF 20...other key dates in EF or AU. Most of my UNCs, if graded, are 63. I think 63 is a good grade for the money..in most cases you get a real pleasing coin without having to step up to the 64/65/etc. prices.
