Regarding PCI's crossover ratio and being the most under-rated Grading Service

I have done very very well this year crossing PCI COINS to PCGS, 27 OUT OF 30. The
rest of the grading service combinded that I have tried to cross to PCGS, including NGC, ANACS
and ICG are a miserable 7 for 20. Now I wont sit her and say that PCGS crossed the coin in
every instance as PCI had it, about 14 out of the 27 went down a grade, 12 however stayed
the exact grade with PCGS that PCI had assigned and in one case PCGS bumped PCI's grade up

  • Allen- One has to wonder why your "eye" is so much better with PCI, than it is in evaluating the quality of coins in other services' holder?

Did you have better luck crossing older PCI slabs with the green-bordered slab inserts than the current gold-bordered PCI slabs? I would guess that the new PCI-graded coins are in general not graded as conservatively as the old PCI.

  • First time I sent coins in for crossover, with a ANACS, PCI and ICG mix I
was 100%. I didn't see what the big deal was. Then I ran into ACG
putting MS63 on AU50 whizzed coins, etc. My last submissions were 0 for
8 with half NGC coins, ANACS, and one ICG. The biggest difference was
that I bought the coin without paying attention to the slab on the first
group, and the second group I bought the slab sight unseen to fill a hole
in my collection. Percentage-wise, I think you are more likely to find a PCI
coin that will not cross than NGC, but you can still find thousands of coins
that were properly graded in PCI coins, just like you can find overgraded
coins in NGC or even (gasp) PCGS holders. It is just that PCI is less
    consistent than PCGS and NGC.

So they still missed half of the coins... every company will have at least some good coins--if you can grade, you'll get them... a lot of PCI coins will cross, but to then mention that half downgraded is a little unfair towards your stated idea that they cross well (crossing usually meaning holding a grade)

Guys....Allen did not post this thread....I DID (Boom) I ,too have had equally good success at crossing as can be seen clicking on to my sig line! In my haste I forgot to omit his Name, but no harm as none of you know who "Allen" is!There were some dicussions as to who the most UNDER-RATED Grading service a few days ago. To a man everyone said ANACS but I said PCI with the KEY word being "MOST under-rated" Then there were statements made by a certain few that "PCI sucks"-even cutting down manofcoins new PCI coin he cherrypicked. I have offered the proof here and am also proving that neither I, manofcoins or "Allen" are fools! Obviously I have copied and pasted Allen's PM to me! Oh...by the way..."Allen" is a Navy man-one year away from retirement-not someone still learning-trying to make as if he knows it all!

Though there's no way to do it with the coin in the slab, I'd bet 1/2 the PCGS slabs wouldn't cross into a PCGS slab. It's all part of the games they play.

It's all a ploy to generate revenue for PCGS and also a way to have all the better coins in the world certified by PCGS. All about exploiting competititive tendecies with the Master Plan revolving around M O N E Y ! Sure, great fun but with each new coin added to population the value of a rare coin diminishes....it then becomes a question of grade rarity....a number on a little piece of paper inside sealed plastic arrived at by Company people's "opinions"-with most of the highest graded coin belonging to the person that can most afford it-the owner of the Company.

Pasting someone's pm without their permission is a serious breach of etiquette.

Yet another person that is tired of the plastics/labeling game and the ploy that predicates it. I once had a couple of PCI graded coins and sold them for "dirt money." Had I known there'd be so much controversy about the population manipution by a certain renowned grading company, I would've never sold them. They were in the first generation PCI holders too. Oh well, another episode in learning the hard way!.....image

No Russ-I'm not a complete idiot nor a pompous ass like you! Of course I have his permission and ,oh by the way, the way you choose to ignore me except in public...the feeling's mutual! You matter to me about as much as what the Cat covers! Now if you'll excuse me I have work to do for about an hour and then I'll be back to deal with you in public anyway you like. Knowing you-you will stir up $#!? while I'm gone. I'll be back for you Big boy!

Not to interrupt an argument, but the way I read the thread about which service is underrated is as follows: "Which holder other than PCGS/NGC would you feel most comfortable buying sight-unseen?". For me, that answer is still ANACS. I've crossed and even upgraded a few PCI crackouts, and I'd be the first to suggest some of their coins are bargains, but sight-unseen, I (just me) still trust ANACS consistency a little more than I do PCI. ANACS and PCI are both pretty inconsistent with moderns IMO.

BTW - The old green holders are sometimes pretty nice, especially the ones labeled PQ.

Interesting and fun coins can be located in PCI holders. It like a hunt.
I've learned to avoid practically anything that states, "DCAM" or "ULTRACAM" on their holders, especially with contemporary coins, but otherwise cool stuff is found in other series in a mix of grades.

Nothing beats buying a $250.00 PCGS coin in a $50.00 PCI holder.

I'll hold an ANACS opinion in higher regard than a PCI opinion any day of the week. But that doesn't stop me from looking at even NTC coins. But I look VERY carefully at the third tier coins and discount them for possible unseen things before I buy. So far I've bought about 5 NTC and PCI coins. The ones I've crossed went through fine. The rest I prefer to keep raw. But I attribute that to being careful. I see more junk in PCI holders than in ANACS holder. Especially toned items.
  • I've enjoyed your posts a great deal Boom. Your quarter auction went JUST as described. You proved a great deal.
