How much money did you spend this year on coins?

How much money did you spend this year on coins?
As 2003 comes to a close, I thought it would be interesting to take a poll on how much of your annual gross income, as a percentage, do you estimate you have spent this year on your coin collections? For those of you that are dealer/ collectors this would include only the coins you purchased that you intend to keep as part of your collections long term. I am estimating that most collectors this year have accelerated their buying to fill those holes more than in most years, as prices continued to go up. As for me I spent more this year on my hobby than in any other year, and would estimate that I spent about 30% of my gross income. My bank account is dry and my credit cards are full.

I would say about 5% of my gross income. I have a fixed monthly numismatic budget, and I stick to it, except in December, I like to treat myself. I only buy about three coins a month, but I make sure they are phenomenal coins.

Brian, this is a very smart way to do this. No doubt my personal collecting really got out of control this year. On the other hand I got 20 years behind, and my excuse is that I was playing catch up Ha Ha !

A lot but I don't mortgage my soul (or my house) to the devil to get them. I still keep cash in reserve and would never max out my CC unless I knew I could pay it off fairly quickly. Man I tell ya payin for the past really sux. Then again if a really good or opportune deal came along I think I could or would find a way to do it.

my rusty ol cars are not worth much.... these cheap frame off restorations are chump change... poor ol Hepkitty..

Probably sold off more duplicates than bought this year. Overall, maybe $1500 after figuring sell offs. Spent all my money paying off the house, adding on, new AC system and buying a new van to haul the kids!
I'm hoping Mrs. Claus will remember this and I find a few exciting stocking stuffers instead of the usual coal lumps!

Last year spent 10%, but I was catching up for years of coin collection neglect. This year I am budgeting 5%.

I spent around $3000 I think. But that ain't going to happen next year. I'm expecting to spend no more than around $750 next year.

I figure around $500. I also have a monthly budget, and I usually try to save up a few months to get some nicer coins.

I've spent well more than any other year... but I've also sold well more than any other year... I'm relatively even, as I've made some phenomenal profits (

)... then again, the year's not over

You buy more when it's more expensive? Buy high, sell low?

Probably a couple grand. Didn't buy much this year. Also have been buying few, more expensive coins.

sold much more than I bought. Spent zero in new money, very little of what I sold was reinvested in coins.

Having a very difficult time finding the coins I would like to own.

I regret selling that one, but am glad it got a good home and appreciative owner.
