? Redfield Peace Dollars

Hey Everybody,
Still at Ft Bragg, been to busy to post lately, I came across several Quality Redfieds in the Paramont holders, 2 were 26s Peace Dollars in the red 65 holders, How often are the peace dollars seen in the Redfield Holders? Aso picked up 2- 90-s PL one may be DMPL, and a better date, 89s in MS 64, all have nice Redfield toning. How have the Redfields been doing at shows, Anybody?
Thanks
Allen

I have nothing useful to add to this thread, but will bounce it back up since it seems lonely.

  • I've seen one Redfield at a show in 2 years of looking. Don't see too many Peace Redfields up for offer. Do an ebay search for Redfield and you can get an idea of what's going on with them.
Do the slabs say "A Silver Dollar from the Redfield Collection" ?? Some of the Paramount slabs don't have that verbage on them and aren't as popular to Redfield collectors.

I've seen Peace dollars in both Redfield holders and Paramount holders. The difference being the Redfields state "REDFIELD" on the holder and the others do not. Be very careful, some sellers tout the plain Paramount holders as "Redfields" and they are not.

    Cheers,

Well I can't really add anything here except I have a really nicely toned 1924-S Redfield that now resides in an NGC MS64 holder.

It's the one and only toned Redfield Peace $ I have ever seen. There are however, quite a few toned Redfield Morgans.

I was offered a couple toned Peace$ in Redfield holders recently at a show. They were very low grade and VERY unattractive. And they wanted "Moon" money for them as well. Perhaps the sellers figured I like these coins, so thought I would pay for their drinks with umbrellas in them.image

Hey Stman -- who was the seller. I'd be interested in seeing them at least. By the way what years were they?

Frattlaw.... I believe it was common dates. Does $400.00 for a butt ugly ms60 interest you? The other one I don't recall what it was, I just knew I wasn't buying.

Allen, from your question, it sounds like you might be looking for general comments about specific coins.

The Peace dollars, in or out of the Redfield holders, will probably sell themselves (or not), based on the merits of the individual coins, rather than the holders, themselves. I would say the same about most any holders.image

    Mark...in almost all cases I'd agree...but Redfields in original Paramount holders...well I guess it's an acquired taste.image

  • Jdimmick, Frattlaw,
Jim- picked up 3 more this weekend when I went home on Pass. Both are 26S, paramont holder with redfield collection on the holder in the red 65 holder, both have nice redfield toning. These were the first Peace Dollars I have come across in these holders. I have bought 4 Morgan (3- 90s's/1-89S )in the Redfield 65 Holder , these 2 peace and 1 MS60 morgan(1897)in the black Redfield holder , I picked these up the last 2 times I went back to Ga on leave from a small dealer I have dealt with for years, He said he orginally sold these coins to one of his customers in the early 80's and he recently died and the family has been bringing his collection in a little at a time selling it off.
    Thanks for the post
